Ridley

Oluokon should be considered a core player and not a rental at this point. He’d be an extension candidate to drop his cap hit for next year to me.

I thought Ridley was excellent today. We got him involved early and he was a threat throughout. Was good to see him get his TD first half as we need him as a RZ target. He's proven a reliable 3rd down target to keep drives going. Hope today was that start of him fitting more into the O than trying to fit the O around him.

If we can start getting games like this from him down the stretch he could be a real difference maker.

Would love to see him thrown to down the middle to really let him get his burners goint

How wonderful is it to have a QB/WR combination where all that has to be done is for the WR to run to a point on the field, put his hands up and the ball will be there.

I doubt that Ridley does anything different in losses than he does in wins.  The real difference is in the pass protection, which allows Trevor the time to get the ball downfield.

I'm glad he had a game and we should enjoy it, but keep in mind the tacks pass defense is one of the worst in the league. I'd like to see the whole passing game become dominant, as we know they can be, against some better pass defenses. It doesn't even have to be dominant, just give me solid. I'd like to see Ridley produce consistently to close out the year for his benefit as well as ours. Hopefully this was the beginning of that.

Little Ridley thread here.

The whole "they are using Ridley wrong" thing is kinda off-base in my opinion.

The team had no X receiver prior to the acquisition.
So naturally, they tried to give hime some standard X receiver boundary routes now that they have a guy capable.
Why wouldn't they do that?
Because he played Z behind Julio in Atlanta most of his time there? No.
That would be silly.
He has tape that shows him beating press coverage and getting open down the sideline. And we needed that.
Everybody here was begging for it, right? "We don't have a number one!!" was a mantra around here.

Anyway - I thumbed though those next gen charts. Looks like there was only one week they used him on the sidelines too much. There were others dislpaying some of the same routes seen in that chart.

The biggest difference in yesterday's performance for Ridley was Trevor having time to wait on him during 2 or 3 snaps + the poor secondary he faced. Zay Jones keeping things honest probably helped keep him from being doubled on a few plays too.

Of course your right and that makes a big difference but just nice to see Ridley have a good game and hopefully this is where the O starts to click.

They definitely gave him routes that didn't rely as much on him just lining up against press and beating a guy down the sideline - but it is far from the only game they've done that this year.

I think it is much more about TL having time and Zay taking away the tendency to cheat with a safety on #0

One more threat to cover can make a big difference when 13, 17, and 1 are all out there too to be considered.

Whatever it is - I just hope it continues to work on better opponents.

All I know is this: I picked Ridley up thinking I was getting a steal in fantasy football, and the dude has single handedly lost me multiple games. I finally benched him this week.

Man when I used to do FF, this was the kind of thing that always happened to me. As soon as I bench a guy he goes off lol.

This. He is a STUD Lb I would argue top 10 at his position in the NFL. I know we can't keep everybody, but he is basically the current iteration of POZ, dude lines us up well and plays his [BLEEP] off. I would be so crushed as a fan if he wasn't retained.

Kind of a weird stat, we also had our O line play like poop in that timespan too. I'm sure everyone's numbers were down over that period.

Yeah there are definitely a lot of variables at play and it's a very small sample.  I found it interesting though.  Something to keep an eye on.

Yeah - it is interesting.

But I think it is no coincidence. OL protection will have a more profound impact on Ridley's stat line than Zay's availability - but I guarantee Zay draws more attention from opponents than Tim Jones does.

If #1, #0, #13, #17, #7 are all on the field at once - the defense is just a little more taxed to cover.

The target share jump is the most compelling stat to me.  With Zay on the field, 1 in 4 of Trevor's throws have been going to Ridley instead of 1 in 6. It certainly sounds like what you describe is happening to some extent.

i think what the big issue is, when Zay is on the Field we have a legit outside receiver on other side, allowing for them to move Ridley around to find better matchups. when zay isn't there Ridley is forced to stay ourside and he hasn't been winning those matchups as well. along with bad Oline protection.
