Trade up for Teddy: Good or bad idea?

My Teddy evaluation hasn't changed in the slightest. If I was convinced that the Texans were going to take him I would still give up this years 2nd, or prooobably still next years 1st, to get him.
It'll be fun bumping year old threads when Teddy is lighting it up (hopefully not for another team)
If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.

I'm still on the Teddy bandwagon, but I don't like trading up and giving away picks unless the compensation is not much.

Quote:You still guaranteeing him first overall? I still think he should go 1st overall, but most reports seem to suggest that the Texans prefer Bortles at 1, if they go QB. Quote:I'm still on the Teddy bandwagon, but I don't like trading up and giving away picks unless the compensation is not much. But intentionally losing games for the chance to draft him is still cool, right?
Quote:But intentionally losing games for the chance to draft him is still cool, right? I say yes. They intentionally tanked by mid-season to get that 1st overall selection. While I initially thought it was for Bridgewater, the point still remains. They could even still take that #1 pick and trade it in exchange for a windfall of picks.... Whatever they decide to do with it, I see it as more beneficial to have the top pick and have the options than to win a few "nothing" games that would have instead put Houston in the 3-6 range. Quote:But intentionally losing games for the chance to draft him is still cool, right? Its especially cool for all the people who lose their jobs because of it. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.
Quote:Its especially cool for all the people who lose their jobs because of it. In both the Colts and Texans situations, the people that ultimately lost their jobs were pretty much out the door at seasons end regardless. A few extra wins added to what they got in those seasons wouldn't have altered anything as far as that goes.
Stay at 3 and take whichever of Clowney/Bridgewater/Watkins is there.

If I cared I would go dig up some gene threads and laugh at how stupid some of you were calling people "bibbers" because they disliked Gene but, I dont, so, I wont.

A few extra wins added to what they got in those seasons wouldn't have altered anything as far as that goes. Texans went with Carr first overall, and blew it. Next time, they went with Mario and got it right. Just because you tank for the first pick doesn't mean you'll end up doing the right thing with it. If you're not taking the best player and instead reaching for need... oof. That's the icing on the cake. You just tanked the season, then wasted the pick on top of that. That would get anyone fired. Say the Texans do go Bortles... it would be because they can't trade out of the pick or don't think they could move down where they otherwise think he should be picked, they are satisfied with their short term QB win or lose, and by benching Bortles for a season or more they intend to buy time until they he develops into the guy they believe is worth picking first. Kind of a reverse-tank, I guess. Get your player now and let him develop without going for the win by playing him too soon. More and more people are coming out of the woodwork to say they don't think there will be but one, if any, QBs going in the top seven or so... and when they do they're picking Bortles to Houston.

Quote:Just like the Geno threads.Geno last four games were pretty good and showed progress. Quote:They got it right because they picked a good player this time. I don't believe any team would say : "Hey he's not as good as the other players available and I'm not sure he won't bust, but we need a QB so..." |
