2024 Needs

#1

Not surprisingly, one beat writer lists needs as:

IOL
IDL
Edge depth/rotation
WR depth
CB depth

Can't argue with any of those and the order makes sense in terms of priority to me - though the way the draft and FA play out could affect that.

These were also the needs when we took Strange/Bigsby.

I'm trying to not be salty over those picks but I just can't help it.

Those two were definitely not BAP picks, and if they were - Baalke should have been fired last season.

Agreed. If this S.O.B drafts another RB or ILB in April it's all on Khan for keeping him around.

Wr depth?  We need a 1 or someone who can take the top off the defense.   Luke further I'd gking to cost us a draftpick!!

if you decide to ... he has a habit of strolling in one area of the stadium during a certain time in the game. I have seen him almost every game doing that.  First time it was like Hey that's Trent !

WR - of all the things listed - is probably the toughest to predict priority on because there are so many approaches they could take.
*Ridley/no Ridley -
*do youlet your slot guy be your work horse VS finding a true X no.1 -
*who knows what input TL is giving on this topic behind closed doors, but I bet they are listening.

regardless - they can't stand pat - and if they tag Rid and essentially stand pat - they could indeed upgrade the Tim Jones as your go to depth situation

Just draft o-line with every pick. That's all I care about at this point.

Interior oline is biggest need by far. Ideally we could find either starter or quality depth in free agency and then two immediate starters in the draft. Assuming we get a 3rd round comp, we'll have three picks in first three rounds. To get immediate starters 2 of those 3 would need to be lineman. Said this on the draft thread, as of now it feels like there will be a number of quality lineman falling to bottom of 1st round. I think we could have the chance of trading back in first round, picking up an extra day 2 pick, and still getting an immediate starter in the 1st.

Next biggest need is dlineman. Need impact starter at DT and could use pass rushing depth. Would love to get an extra day 2 draft pick as mentioned above in order to address both d line needs.

I'm torn about ridley. Said in his thread it's a tough scenario. Good player but not a true #1. Too many dropped balls and miss routes. Would hate to use the 2nd round pick and eat away at cap space that could be used for bigger needs. But giving up a 3rd for a one year rental would be very disappointing as well. I'm actually not as worried about the wr core if zay and kirk are healthy. What we need is a true speed guy that threatens teams down the field.

Finally we need an overall philosophical change. We need to be far more physical on the line. Not just better players but more physical and aggressive. We're just too soft. I don't want us to draft athletic lineman that could move as much as much as I want guys that will physically dominate and overpower the opponent. And in a similar vein, I want to see playcalling that will do the same. No horizontal, less quick passing. Want to see downhill running, play action passing, deeper dropbacks. Offense is too finesse.

1st Priority is a young offensive minded HC that is willing to actually coach the team.

That's the need here.

Doug Pederson is a dinosaur that is just collecting paychecks based on his fluke SB win.

In 2024 we need a real HC that can develop Trevor Lawrence.

Eh, who am I kidding?  It's not gonna happen.

I guess we need a Center, a LG and a RG.,  And then maybe Lawrence can survive long enough to make a wild card birth on his own.

Yep. The problem is will similar things happen this next draft?

Draft lineman. Every year. A minimum of two offensive lineman should be getting drafted moving forward every year.

Both Doug & Baalke will be in the hot seat next year if we dont make the playoffs.

Yes but the issue is that this team has to be able to fill up at least one position group on the cheap, either 3rd tier FA, last round draft picks, or UDFA. Especially, if they are going to have to be paying Trevor and Allen FA level contracts.

We all keep talking about using so many resources to patch up issues, but even the best teams don't hit like 2/3 of the time on FA and/or draft picks.

It has already been 2 years, and there hasn't been that any evidence of any particular coach, scouts, analytics guys, or GM being force multipliers for any specific position group.

That is a problem.

This depends upon what assumptions you make.  If we're going only by players under contract, starting edge and starting wide receiver are huge needs.  If we assume Josh Allen and Calvin Ridley are resigned, this list looks about right.

IOL is definitely a need.  We need both a center and a left guard.  If Scherff is a cap casualty, we also need a right guard.

We need IDL.  DaVon Hamilton returning to health would help, but I would still consider this a big need.

Depth is never as important as starters, but we do need edge depth.  Chaisson is a free agent, but even if he wasn't, he only had 2 sacks last year.  We would be in trouble if Allen or Walker were injured.

I would probably agree with WR depth.  We have some young guys, but they aren't proven.  We struggled at WR when injuries occurred.  Also, Agnew is a free agent and I wouldn't bring him back unless he's willing to take a pay cut.  He's never done much as a receiver and kickoff returns matter little anymore with the new kickoff rules.  The Jaguars could use a good #4 wide receiver.

Herndon is a free agent, so CB depth makes sense.  If he's resigned, then I disagree.  Montaric Brown showed to be good inexpensive depth.  Gregory Junior is unproven, but he looked good in the preseason.  He's young inexpensive depth.

1,000 percent

Muma, Strange, Bigsby could have been something along that defensive front or offensive line.

Sad we never got to see the offense with Ridley Kirk Agnew and Zay all healthy together. WR was our deepest position going into this season.

I really feel this team is fixed by adding 3 lineman,a proper NT , and one more pass rusher

They still need a reliable deep threat. All those guys can be schemed into deep shots, but none of them truly scare defenses going deep.

Zay Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Christian Kirk are all sub 4.5 second 40 guys.  Add in Jamal Agnew and you have one of the fastest WR groups in the NFL.  The problem is that the O-line is so porous that there is no time for the plays to develop.
