Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Aaron Rodgers, etc. The game is rarely won outside the pocket unless that pocket involves a running game that keeps a defense honest.
Just because you CAN do something? Doesn't mean you probably should. Injuries suck. They take a toll on you at some point. Lawrence tried using his physical talent throughout the season, guess what it did?
It got him a knee sprain and a brace, an ankle sprain, a concussion and a sprain in his throwing shoulder. Pretty [BLEEP] hard to use your physical talent when you have the snot smacked out of you.
Stroud, hell, he missed 2 games using that physical talent with a concussion. How long before it catches up to him? The fun ends when the funds end man.

Lamar won Rookie of the year his first year. He still escapes the pocket when pressure gets to him and buys time to hit the reciever open, while Lawrence takes forever to proccess the field or makes a mistake OR OR gets sacked.
You guys act as if only Lawrence deals with pressure in the league. OL talent in the league is probably the worst of every other unit in the league.
But we get it, people on this boards already made up their minds, oline bad, lawrence good.
Will be singing the same tune next year regardless of how many oline players we draft.....its going to come down to the OL why lawrence sucks. Lol
If we have a top 10 O line next year, and Lawrence still puts up his typical 20 tds 20 turnovers I gurantee you that 80% of this board will be blaming the coach/wrs again.
Time will tell if the O line issue will fix the QB issue or not.

You seem to be leaning "no," and I am leaning "yes."
I think almost any decent QB will look good behind a good offensive line. And I think almost any QB at all will look bad behind a bad offensive line.

Look at Rodgers OLine throughout years, or Brady's majority of their OLines were third and fourth rounder talents.....same with Lamar Jacksons and Mahomes

I absolutely think he would be better behind a better O line.
The thing is tho, you can be a lot better than 20 td 20 turnovers and still be bad.
It's a matter of how good can he be once the circumstances get better..
Even in Mahomes worst game (the Tampa SB where his O line made ours look like a HOF oline)
You could still see his talent shine through, even running for his life on 90% of his snaps he still made unbelievable throws.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not one who advocates change for change's sake. I usually favor keeping as much of the team together as possible and then fix what is wrong. However, when I look at our offensive line situation, the solution that makes the most sense to me involves major change. Also, let me say that this is what I would do if I were GM. I don't think Baalke takes this approach.
Starting center clearly needs to be upgraded. Because he's on an inexpensive rookie contract, Fortner can compete for a backup role. You then have Robinson and Scherff. If they were inexpensive, I would probably keep them. However, they are not. We would receive $17.75 million in cap savings by cutting Robinson. In regards to Scherff, we would save $9 million this year. However, it would also save us an additional $7 million off next year's cap. The result is that we are incurring over $16 million in salary cap for one year of Scherff's services. If you add Robinson and Scherff together, we are incurring over $34 million just for those two players for one year. It accounts for approximately 14% of the team's entire salary cap. They aren't worth it.
If we cut Robinson and Scherff, we have $34 million to spend in free agency to upgrade the three spots on the interior of the offensive line without even restructuring any players or using a penny of our available cap space. Interior offensive line, compared to other positions, aren't as expensive in free agency. As for tackle, obviously Harrison returns for one starting spot. As for the other, I would use our #17 overall pick on it. Mock drafts indicate that a good one should be available. I like the idea of two young quality tackles protecting Trevor for the future. I also like the idea of drafting a tackle while we still have Walker Little as a Plan B, although I expect he would be the swing tackle. Also, keep in mind that Robinson and Little are in the final year of their contracts. If we wait a year, we don't know where we'll be drafting and it's possible that it could be a terrible draft for offensive tackles. A good one may not be available. Let's get a tackle this year while we can. I would also draft an interior offensive lineman for depth/developmental purposes, but most likely on Day 3. The team does have other needs and interior offensive linemen sometimes fall in the draft.
Also, I will say that I personally like big offensive linemen. We need to able to run up the middle on 3rd or 4th and short. Size is the best way to do that. I like wearing the other team down and then being able to run at will on them. If the other team has to defend the run, it opens up your passing game.

Pretty sure the dead cap from those two cuts only leaves you with a $23 mil savings. Not 34.
And I think your final paragraph is the big X factor.
Will Doug change his OL finesse-trait approach and also incorporate more power runs in his playbook??
No clue.
I sure hope so.
It's infuriating to watch that IOL get ragdolled every week. So over the "athletic guys" up front.
Give me bigger and stronger guys who are just athletic enough to pull off the zone stuff.

Well you saw something that I didn’t. He was totally ineffective the entire game. And I thought this long before you made this horrible assertion.
LOL you must be a casual then, if you watched the game you'd know better. Dude got screwed by drops but you cannot deny the greatness in his ability on these plays sir, you'd be ignorant to ever compare Lawrence to this man.
I'd like to state, that second throw being as close as it was is one of the most absurdly crazy things i've ever seen in the NFL, dude was being twisted in a 360 and threw a pin point pass in the endzone.

All the effort you put into finding these quotes and have still yet to prove any point. I've already said that I called him out for his bad play, still waiting to see where I said he would never be good.
Also do me a favor, stretch out these posts for me, i'd be willing to bet 90% of this is on game day threads.
Edit: Also side note, the Bethard quote is quite a funny one. Lawrence was playing like absolute dog [BLEEP] the entire game, everyone in that thread was blaming the WRs and Bethard came in for all of 4 or so plays and threw 3 absolute dots, one of which would have been a 40+ yard td if Agnew didn't drop it.

So drops are an 'excuse' for Lawrence but a 'reason' for Mahomes. Got it.
By they way [BLEEP], where did I compare Lawrence to Mahomes other than my smart [BLEEP] remark above?
Oh wait...I didn't. But I already know that part of your M.O. is to try to put words into other people's mouths.

Its possible there will be 3 really good ones available, or at least 2 of the 3. Latham, Fuaga, and Mims.

Agree with you regarding what needs to happen with the offensive line. Just don't believe Robinson and Scherff are worth the amount they'd be paid. Drafting a tackle in round 1 to play on the other side of Harrison would be a good move. That draft pick could compete with Little for a starting spot. If Little has a great camp and pre-season, the draft pick could become a starter at guard. Taliese Fuaga would be my top choice and would fit the description of a mauler desired by most Jaguar fans.
Unfortunately, I also agree with your opinion on whether Baalke will take this approach. He seems to care more about his ego and may not try to replace Fortner since that means his 3rd round pick was a dud. Let's hope he proves us wrong.

Pretty sure the dead cap from those two cuts only leaves you with a $23 mil savings. Not 34.
And I think your final paragraph is the big X factor.

It's infuriating to watch that IOL get ragdolled every week. So over the "athletic guys" up front.
Give me bigger and stronger guys who are just athletic enough to pull off the zone stuff.
No more ballerinas who pull outside well but can't gut out a yard on third down.
I got my figures from Over The Cap. I double checked them and I reported them correctly. I just checked Spotrac as well. Their figures for Scherff are virtually the same (within rounding). For Robinson, there is a small discrepancy. They are reporting $16.1 million instead of $17.75 million in savings. Even if we assume the lower figure is the correct one, we're still looking at $32.6 million in savings. The difference isn't enough for me to revise my plan.
I think many people get confused over pre and post June cuts. Unless you are in salary cap hell, it means little. Under both scenarios, the long term savings is the same. The only difference is when you get the savings. Let's use Scherff as the example. If we cut him post June 1st, we get the full $16.5 million savings in 2024, but nothing in 2025. If we cut him pre June 1st, we get $9.0 million this year and $7.5 million next year. It's still $16.5 million in savings over two years. The $16.5 million figure is the amount that we should be considering when deciding if he's worth retaining for one more year.
The timing of the savings means little because it is so easy to move salary cap between years. If you want more space in 2024, you can restructure the contracts of existing players and/or back load the contracts of your new signings. You can also cut players post June 1st. You even have the ability to make 2 players each year "June 1st cuts" without having to wait until June 2nd. On the other side, if you want less cap in 2024 and more in 2025, you can just spend less and the unused dollars roll over. The bottom line is that it is very easy to shift salary cap dollars between years which means the timing of the savings for one particular player means little. It's the dollar amount of those savings that matter. Depending upon which site you use, our savings for Robinson and Scherff is either $32.60 million or $34.25 million. I think that money can be better spent elsewhere.

I think if we cut Cam there is a 80% chance we draft a RT and move Harrison to LT. I don't think there will be a LT at 17 worth the pick when we draft but this is the best RT class in years imo. As you said, if Little can have a really good camp we play him at LT and the rookie at RG so it's a win win

If Little is your starting LT next year than expect lawrence to get hit alot
But with this coaching staff I wont be suprised if he is.... they are too stupid to realize that Little isnt a starting caliber player.

For better or worse, I don’t see Doug changing much on offense scheme. He doesn’t appear to be.

That's infuriating as a lifelong Jags fan.
We have always been a run first punch em in the mouth team. From Coughlin to Del Rio no team wanted to play us because they knew they wouldn't heal properly for their next game.
Finesse football is trash football.
