Trade up for Teddy: Good or bad idea?

Quote:1. Geno last four games were pretty good and showed progress. 1. Geno has never shown he was ever worth selecting second overall, which is exactly what the folks in those threads were suggesting. 2. The people that overrate players certainly do, even though they don't realize that's what they're doing because they're in love with the player. They certainly thought Carr was good and the right choice when they selected him, didn't they? Or were they blinded by their desperation to manufacture a QB in a class where there wasn't one? Sounds a lot like the same questions teams are facing again this year if they need a QB.

Quote:In both the Colts and Texans situations, the people that ultimately lost their jobs were pretty much out the door at seasons end regardless. A few extra wins added to what they got in those seasons wouldn't have altered anything as far as that goes. It would certainly alter their future employment chances. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles. Quote:Eric Fisher, Lane Johnson, Dion Jordan, Tavon Austin, Dee Milliner, EJ Manuel and Jarvis Jones all had a rookie year as inconsistent as Geno Smith, even worse for some of them. I would even add Joeckel to the list. Weren't they worth their respective top 20 pick or that only works for Geno ? Quote:Carr was lauded as the unanimous 1st overall pick during the whole offseason process like you want Bridgewater to be to be worth a top 5 pick. He wasn't a last minute manufactured prospect. Sometimes, everyone just gets it wrong.
Quote:It would certainly alter their future employment chances. That doesn't matter though. If you remember, those coaches took under the table bribes from there respective owners to ensure that they tanked the season. Future employment is not as significant if you consider the lucrative nature of losing on purpose with their previous teams. Cha-ching! We show less advertisements to registered users. I happens every year. A couple years ago it was about how Garrard was going to win the job in Miami, the next it was about how he was going to win the job with the Jets, then it was how Geno was the man to take at #2, and now it's about how Ted's the savior. So many proclamations of things that "will happen" don't come to fruition, and this might end up being just one more of them.

Even in hindsight, the second round selection is debatable. Has it ever occurred to you that the reason sometimes they get it wrong could be because they're trying to manufacture a candidate from a crop without true franchise candidates? Don't take my word for it, scouts are suggesting that very premise and are using this very draft class as an example.

Even in hindsight, the second round selection is debatable. As their jobs are on the line if they don't get a QB upgrade they sometimes do I agree. What I see with Teddy and Geno is that they overcompensates and nitpick because they are too afraid to pick a bust. And it's easier to find flaws than to be wrong. I disagree that Geno wasn't even worth the 2nd round pick as he's shown enough flashes of potential for me to believe he can be very good QB but your mind is so made up on this I won't insist.
Quote:Texans went with Carr first overall, and blew it. Next time, they went with Mario and got it right. I agree that just because they got the pick doesn't guarantee that they do good with it, and thats what I am hoping ultimately happens with the Texans, I hope they mess it up big time. Geno was the number 3 deep ball thrower in the league with no weapons at all. I fully believe he will develop into a borderline pro bowl QB. Maybe not good enough to go every year, but he could make 2 or 3 in his career or so.
Geno was more media hype than good. It would help all of us if these so called social media sports personalities were forced to disclose their paid consultations with athlete agencies, etc.
What we have is PLAYOLA, where these kids are forking out their future NFL earnings by signing some PR contract to promote them ahead of the NFL selection meeting. The contracts work. Just look at Biff Bortles. There's lots of mouthpieces spouting their client's "draftability", but they vanish if the prospect slips up on the turf, or throws prior to the draft. Where do they get their expert credentials? Twit me. Twit me real good.

Quote: It would help all of us if these so called social media sports personalities were forced to disclose their paid consultations with athlete agencies, etc.I don't know if "it would help all of us" but it is certainly happening and it would be interesting to see how much of it is happening/ money spent etc. Of course it's been happening for years. Athletes have paid publicists for decades. Social media is just a new twist in the game. While the hype machine is annoying - I don't have much trouble looking past it. You need to seriously get over yourself.

The fool who called Terrell Davis a "cutback" runner, when he (and the rest of the world) describes himself as a downhill runner was even funnier. You need to learn to learn from your mistakes (but unfortunately your Achilles heel is your false pride.)

Quote:Tebow > GenoThat's debatable, and the fact that it's debatable speaks to how truly awful each of those two QBs is. I wouldn't trade up from three for anyone in this draft. I think that no matter who goes one and two, a player of equivalent caliber will be available at three. Clowney's the only real standout, huge talent available, and I think he makes it to three anyway.
