Ridley Speculated to Hit Free Agency

I never said placing the tag signs him to a contract. That's why I said it requires him to sign it. But with the tag being around $21 million for a WR are we really sure he won't sign it? The smartest play is to just let him hit FA and if we want him we compete for him. But I'm not sure he's going to walk away from $21 million especially since his market value is projected to be around $17 million. We show less advertisements to registered users. No, if he really wants to be here and will be here he would rather the team give up a 3rd than a 2nd. You dont want to weaken the team you are going to be on.

The other side of the coin though is that if you think TLaw is who you think he is, grabbing a young (AND CHEAP) guy of Robinson or Chark's ability should maximize the young WR's potential. Do you throw 15-20M of your cap at a WR who is aging, who didn't elevate the offense any more than it performed without him, or do you use that money to build the line in hopes that your existing commitments in Engram, Kirk, Zay et al are sufficient to maintain or improve? I don't know the answer. But I do know especially that if we plan to do significant deals with Allen and eventually TLaw, we need to get younger and cheaper at a lot of other positions. If we sign on for 3 years of realistic commitment to Ridley at the expense of our weaker positions, do we just keep repeating the cycle of middling records and frustrating seasons? Look at the chefs. They kept Kelce, he's a daggum cheat code. Best in the game at his position, no debate. Hill wanted his bag, and they let him walk. Their WR corps is primarily built through the draft. None of them may be clones of Hill, but they get production just the same and oh yeah, they also beat Hill and his new team in the playoffs. The goal shouldn't be to replicate the lost player. It's to find ways to get the job done in spite of the loss of that player. IMO this is the biggest issue of this offseason. Allen is pretty much a given that we'll do what it takes to keep him around. I think they delay on TLaw at least till preseason or so. But what do they do with Ridley. I can honestly see benefits on either side. Grab the popcorn, folks! I think it's kinda cool to find so many insightful stats (even thought there are plenty of pointless stat lines thrown around too)

Remember the argument on here when Ridley dropped that over the shoulder pass in the end zone? HE SHOULD"VE CAUGHT IT! IT WAS OVERTHROWN! IT HIT HIM IN THE HANDS! NO, IT HIT HIS FINGERS AT THE FIRST KNUCKLE, THAT'S AN OVERTHROW!!!! LOL, and then people make and report statistics off of those kinds of subjective foundations. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

If it hits your hands a #1 catches it most of the time. He routinely did not.
No Fun

Sure he's a good receiver...but the Jags need to add youth and value to that WR room. Someone that will play with Trevor for at least 4 more years. If we can keep the 2nd...and get Ridley for two years...under 20 million each...I'm good as well, but if this playoff season has taught us anything...we shouldn't need a Calvin Ridley to get to the SB. Trevor playing smart is way more important.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude. Next season I want him gone.
I didn't really think of this, but if we sign Ridley after he hits free agency, we keep our 2nd round pick.

If Ridley wants to be here and we want him back they should work out a deal and just sign him the minute FA starts. Ridley should want the team he's going to be with as strong as possible. Our 2nd round pick at 47 should be a starter or our 3rd pass rusher and a important part to this team vs a mid 3rd round pick. The Jags do risk losing him this way (even if they have a handshake deal). I think this happened to Carlos Boozer and the Cavs a while ago. Boozer said he would resign with them after FA started and then he bolted for the Jazz. My guess is that Baalke told Ridley “we want you but we don’t want to lose the 2nd round pick. So we will give you a big contract right as the new league year starts.” Ridley probably said that he would do that but who knows what other teams might offer. Just like any FA, he’s going to get the most money as possible. If another team offers him more, he’s gone. Then WR becomes a massive need. Don't want to give the lawyas anything to get their claws into. Baalke has publicly stated that we want him here, and that's plenty to suggest that a deal will be offered in time. Correct, he's under contract until the 13th of March. He's permitted to talk to other team's beginning the 11th, but the Jaguars can talk to him at will from now until then. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

The problem is he likely ends up with a team in worse shape or in a bad city/state. There's a lot worse places to be that with the Jaguars. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
