Ridley Speculated to Hit Free Agency
|
Not mad at all.
Wanted to keep him but it's too expensive. We have big holes to fill. I could see a WR in day 2 + a veteran like Mike Williams (if he is not too expensive). I like Curtis Samuel too We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
This was like week 13 or so last year, week 13!!! Really ? Now you need to pay more attention?
Really? For that to happen, the Jaguars need to execute, both the coaching staff and players. Ridley, for his part, says he needs to focus better, "pay attention more in meetings, be more in the moment, and the moment only. Pay attention."

Y'all talking like the plan all along was to spend 20M on a new receiver this offseason. Repeat after me. THE DARFT IS NOT UNTIL APRIL. I don't know that anyone in the FO expected Rid to come back. He gave us the chance to either make an offer or match an offer. No telling if he or his agent were entertaining bids or telling everyone to wait until 4p yesterday. We were not going to spend 23M on any receiver this year. Y'all need to take a breath. Did you expect the Jags to get into a bidding war?No. Remember how everyone dumped on Baalke for taking a TE early last year after we franchise Engram? Or darfted Etienne when JRob just ran for a grand? Think about how much we spent in FA the year we brought in Kirk, Zay, and Agnew. Realistically, why would you spend additional draft capital on the position, considering all the other needs on the team? 2021, New coach, thought we were in good shape, still, in the WR room. 2022, traded for Ridley. Question still stands, why are we going to leave bigger holes on the roster to keep adding WR to the competition? This is the year. The FA guys we signed are getting to the pricier ends of their deals. We need to be ready for the eventuality of moving on. We started that with Washington last year. This is a suuuuuuper deep draft at the position, so we'll be well suited to blend value and future need to fill the depth chart. Patching is PRECISELY what you want to do with FA. Unfortunately, a few years ago we used FA for the purposes of building and that limited our ability to leverage the draft for the foundation. I don't see anything we are doing in the present as tying our hands for using this draft (or future drafts) to maintain or develop the future. The patches allow us to aim more at value than at desperate need. Finding value will prevent the need to rely on FA in the future to find quality starting material. I think this whole "we didn't darft WR so now we're in this pickle" is setting an unattainable goal for the FO. We had to spend to build. We are now shifting from making headlines on day 1 FA to using the darft to build and FA to patch. How is that bad? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I'm disappointed about a few decisions, but there's a long way between now and fielding the final roster. I'm more interested in what our staff is going to do to fix the defense and improve the OL schematically than I am overanalyzing every roster move right now. Improving the talent is the bigger aspect of it, but pieces are still being added. IDL is still a big need and I'd love to see another IOL piece added as well. I think there's adequate talent coming together everywhere else for the most part. This offseason still has potential to work out well. We show less advertisements to registered users. No Fun

I really don't like the idea of trading away in this draft at all at the moment. I think if you're willing to fork over a future pick, sure, why not. Maybe give them the 96 pick in RD3 and next year's 2nd RD pick. That's about it. I am keeping the 17th pick, the 46th pick and those other picks in RD4 though. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Aiyuk would be good.
Then we can get a CB, DT and OL in the draft. I am a fan, not a cheerleader. While Baalke has had a good looking free agency so far, there's just too many holes out there for me to feel comfortable, once again, with them forking over a high value draft pick on a WR. Aiyuk may or may not be the missing piece. BUT, we have too many missing pieces to be concerning ourselves or fixating ourselves on one player at the moment. I still think Baalke leans towards defense on the opening night of the draft, and, it'll either be a CB or an EDGE in my opinion. I think WR is something he'll entertain around RD3 personally, the way you have it outlined. Getting another CB and interior or exterior presence on that defensive line is crucial though, and, because it's been minimally touched up on in free agency and because of the overall value of those positions earlier on with the WR class being relatively deep, it just makes the most sense to go this route. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? One thing I wonder is if Trevor May actually play better without Ridley. Too many times last season he was trying to force feed Ridley instead of taking the smart throw. The year before when he was on a roll, he was just reading the defense and finding the open man.

Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Heck they had to cut Armstead to get under the cap Wenesday. They desperately need to con someone's first round pick (or any high pick) from them to get cheap good players. Problem is we need our picks for the same reason. Beside the guy is a shorter and lighter Gabe Davis.

Wanted to keep Rid, but not for 23m per lol. Good for him on cashing in and getting the bag. Sucks to have to play him twice a year now.

Eventually all them cap hits come due. We gotta big one on the horizon, start prepping now.
