Another Tradeback Scenario

#1

Bortles and Robinson go 1-2.  Clowney's still on the board at 3.  Dimitroff calls his old buddy Caldwell and we swap places in the first round plus we pick up a 2 (#37 overall) from ATL.

Atlanta takes Clowney, Bridgewater falls to us at 6 after Cleveland takes Johnny Football and Oakland takes Mack.

Thoughts?

Thoughts?.....Caldwell gave them too good of a deal....

for Clowney, the Jags should get more compensation than a 2nd rounder -only-  in trading from 3 to 6.

Just take Clowney. He's worth more than 1 pick.

Clowney is a great prospect, a 2nd would be too little to move up 3 spots.  It's all about the hype and he's delivered on it.  There is zero chance he falls out of the top 5, so it'd have to be more.

If you like a QB enough to take them top 10 you dont take the risk of trading back when they are on the board.

<span style="color:rgb(34,34,34);">Any scenario we take Teddy Bridgewater is a nightmare to me.  Unless we get him in the 3rd round which is the earliest I would take someone with an arm like that.

I would take him in the 2nd if Murray was off the board

Honestly id rather have Garoppolo.  Bridgewater doesnt have the arm to be the type of QB the people on this board think he is.  He is going to have a Geno like drop at the draft IMO.

huh? that's almost like adding an extra 1st round pick, we only gave up a 4th to move up 2 spots to get Blackmon

that being said, if we were targeting Bridgewater, I wouldn't want to chance trading down

I'd rather have Evans

Clowney carries more weight than Blackmon did back then.

There's so much talent at the top, though, that a king's ransom isn't likely. It's also worth noting that if the Jaguars pass on Clowney, he could easily fall to Atlanta naturally. The Browns will almost certainly draft a QB, and while the Raiders might take Clowney, I think they'll be more interested in an offensive player like Watkins. The Falcons will know this, and given that Dimitroff and Caldwell spent years working together, there's a pretty good chance that the Falcons already have an idea as to who the Jaguars are leaning toward.

This would be a tough choice. I certainly would expect more than just a 2nd rounder from Atlanta. I might "settle" for a 2nd and 4th. This would give the Jags 3 picks in the top 40. They could take the best player available with each pick and solidly address 3 need areas. They could also use some of their extra picks to move up when another targeted player is still available in the 2nd or third rounds. I could envision a draft like this:

Rd. 1 (pick 6) Sammy Watkins

2  Jimmy Garrapalo or A.J. McCarron

       2  Kyle VanNoy

2 Best interior lineman available (Yankey, Jackson, Su'A-Filo) (give up 3rd and 5th to move up)

4 Best center available (Stork is possibility)

4 Best running back available (Seastrunk or Storm Johnson)

       5 Crockett Gillmore

       5 DeMarcus Lawrence

6 Aaron Colvin (falls due to injury)

6 David Fales or Brett Smith

       7 Cody Latimer

As talented as Clowney is, it would be hard to pass up a haul like this. You get the top playmaker in Watkins, immediate starters in Van Noy, Yankey and Watkins, future starters at q.b., cornerback, center and D.End and quality depth with Gillmore, Seastrunk, Fales and Latimer.

37th for 6th to 3rd isn't enough compensation in that scenario.  Clowney's got such a huge potential that he would command a premium.

Im kinda hoping that if we trade back with Atlanta like some think that Johnny slides to 6(doubt it) and then Dallas offers their top 3 picks this year and their top 2 next year and we drop to 17? but now have 3 2nd rd picks and 3 3rds..this draft is made on the 2nd day IMO...

In my crazy scenario we could do something like this:

17: Dee Ford or Louis Nix

2nd: Garappolo

2nd: Yankey

2nd Shazier

3rd Jeffcoat

3rd  Austen safarn jenkins

3rd  J. Watkins

crazy i know but fun to to consider.

I would only do it for their entire draft this year and next year. Accepting anything less than that should result in caldwell's immediate firing.

Seriously, the jags gave up a 4th to move up from 7th to 5th. Dolphins gave up a third to move from 13th to 3rd. Browns gave up a 4th, 5th and 7th to move from 4 to 3. Clowney is worth more than those players, but if you can pick up an extra second in a ridiculously strong draft and still get Mack or Watkins then you jump on it. Everybody wants to trade down. It would be great value.

Not the same draft. Better players at the top of this one. To compare it to trades in past drafts is faulty. Besides, the GM that actually accepted a 3rd to drop 10 spots should be fired.
