Browns got worked. The colts came up big time, got a proven above average rusher for a late first. Tanking for Teddy.

 

 

Worked? How? The new GM didn't take Richardson but was able to get a first round for him. The Colts gave away a premium pick, just like they did last year for Vontae Davis. How does that trade look now? Not sure what Grigson is doing to be honest. Trading away these picks is going to catch up with you eventually.

Good move by the browns though with Lombardi running the show they will blow it mightily.

 

 

THey pretty much mailed the season in with this trade and its good for the colts as im sure they'd rather see the Browns get the top QB vs us. ALso Colts get a decent RB who can help bring some balance to the offense.

 

This is not what we needed to hear.

I actually think this is a good move (after a terrible one in 2012) for the Browns.  First round RBs are like high dollar veteran free agents, you take them to push you over the hill...not to rebuild a torn down franchise.  The RB lifecycle is way shorter than a QB, Linemen, Backer, or Secondary.

This is a win-win for both sides. The Colts already have their franchise QB, a very good receiving corps, and now with Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson, they have a good backfield. This trade only works if you are a good team looking to get better, which to me, the Colts are. Now when opponents face the Colts, they have to worry about both their run and pass games. This opens things up for them.

 

Meanwhile, for the Browns...this is a chance to start over--again. The new regime can decide to draft players that fit their scheme. I still think that giving up a draft pick to move up and get Richardson, pay his huge bonus, and the trade him is suspect. But hey, it's the Browns.

 

Also, people say it's easy to find running backs in later rounds, yet teams are constantly looking for good running backs because they're actually hard to find. MJD was out most of the year. Why weren't the Jags able to find a "good" RB? I thought they were a dime a dozen? The Packers have bee looking for years and decided to spend their draft getting one.

MOJO has been facing that for years...just like Fred Taylor had to when he played here... MOJO has played behind bad QB's but he still managed to win the rushing title in 2011...I wonder what he would have been like playing with a team like Indy or the Pats...

How does the Vonate Davis trade look? Great! I doubt you'll find a Colts fan that isn't thrilled with that trade. VD was well worth a 2nd round pick. With that said, I'm not sure how I feel about the Richardson trade. I'm sure seeing Donald Brown completely whiff on a block on the 4th down play against Miami sealed the deal for the Colts. The goal is to protect Luck by 1) running effectively, 2) having a RB that is capable of pass protecting, and 3) using the RB as an outlet in the passing game. Richardson fits that mold pretty well, his salary is cheap (colts only pay base salary, cleveland pays prorated bonus), he's locked up for several years, and he's young + talented. He gives the team a pretty good set of skill players - Luck, TRich, Hilton, & Allen (whoever said Allen hadnt been impressive is more than wrong, and I think Fleener is about to step up) However, in general I don't like using a 1st for a RB and the Colts need help at OLine and LB. I can talk myself into it, but I don't really like the philosophy.

Seems unlikely. Running back is not a premium position in the league and they just got a first round pick for one. It is a smart move.

Where he was drafted means nothing because the people running the Browns did not make that pick. They inherited Richardson. Right now he is a running back that has had knee issues and has a 3.5 YPC average for his career. It was a smart move by the Browns.

You have a QB like Manning (when he was with the Colts when MOJO came into the league)and Brady now... good QB's like them means a defense can't stack the box to stop the run... both Manning and Brady would have a field day against a stacked box... that leaves a RB, like MOJO, with a lot of room to run...

Greg Jones and a FB on the team now is much needed to run the ball because the box is stacked and the very poor play of the Jags QB's...
