As The Roster Churns: Waives/Cuts/Signings/Trades 2024

#1

We are less than 4 weeks away from the cut to 53 and will begin seeing activity as players get banged up in camp or simply fail to produce:

In the past 24 hours the Jags have waived a kicker -
And added a ST ace LB/Safety:

Had to look him up. Not a bad signing. 19 career sacks. 26 years old. Peaked with 6.5 during his last year in Seattle as a 3rd RD pick. Could be an interesting camp body that finds a spot on the pass rushing rotation.

Looks like the offense did enough today to really piss off Nielsen and the defensive staff. LOL. Lots of turnover at LB/DE today. Interesting.

Raheem Green

I like to go back to look at their NFL Draft Scout Report -- they compared him to Carlos Dunlap and slated him for Rounds 2-3 (he went to USC and was drafted in Round 3 by Seattle)

Yet another five-star recruit and High School All-American that chose to join the Trojans, Green is coming into this own. A future NFL five-technique due to his size, strength, length, and agility, Green started all 14 games at defensive tackle in 2017, garnering first-team All-Pac-12 honors after leading his team with 12.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks and being credited with 43 total tackles and four pass breakups. He started 12 of 13 games for USC in 2016, making 55 tackles, 6.5 for losses, and a team-best six sacks. The honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection also blocked two field goals (tied for fifth nationally) and two forced fumbles. As a true freshman, Green played in every game, posting 19 stops, one for loss.

Sounds like he's maybe interchangeable between DT/DE. Not a bad signing to see what he can bring to the table. Still curious how Myles Cole looks out of Texas Tech. Extremely raw but has that freakish athletic size and look to him.

Tough break for Patterson. Hold your head up champ.

His game winner against the Chargers in the 2022 playoffs, is the only walk-off game winning FG in franchise playoff history as time expired. (Scobee's FG in 2007 at Pittsburgh had :37 left on the clock).

This implies we had other walk-offs with time on the clock?

The Charger playoff game was the only time.

signed 1,125,000 for one year. No guaranteed money, no dead cap, no liability if released.

this time of year we churn through a lot of guys like this. Low odds of hitting, but worth the attempt.

It does not.  It clearly states he had the only walk-off as time expired.  There is no insinuation that he had other walk-offs and should not be interpreted that way.

then why not just say only walk-off game winner in franchise history? "walk-off" already suggests that the game ended with the result of the kick. In the world of cherry-picked stats to form narratives, every word matters.

Rasheed is a quality addition that adds more depth at a position of need that many have been calling for some time now.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Because it’s not the only time a walk off field goal ended the game with the Jaguars winning. Mike Hollis kicked made a field goal as time expired, to give the Jaguars the win against the Broncos in 1999 during the regular season, on Monday Night Football as time expired.

Josh Scobee made a 37 yard walk-off field goal against the Texans during the regular season in 2008, which gave the Jaguars the win in overtime. (11:30 on clock)

Josh Scobee made a 59 yard walk-off field goal against the Colts, during the regular season in 2010, which gave the Jaguars the win as time expired.

Josh Lambo made a 30 yard walk-off field goal against the Chargers, during the regular season in 2017, which gave the Jaguars the win in overtime. (3:17 on clock)

Matthew Wright made a 53 yard walk-off field goal against the Dolphins in 2021, during the regular season in 2021, which gave the Jaguars the win as time expired.

Josh Lambo made a 33 yard walk-off field goal against the Broncos in 2019, during the regular season in 2019, which gave the Jaguars the win as time expired.
