MJD a Raider

Quote:Marcedes lewis is still on the roster, but mjd is not. There's something wrong with that. Marcedes got paid, Mincey got paid, Garrard got paid, just to name a few. But real contributors like MJD and Daryl Smith? Nope. I still have faith in Dave and Gus, but not re-signing these guys hurt, especially when we had the cap room.

MJD was one of the most highly compensated running backs in the league when he signed his last contract. He got paid. The fact that he didn't get re-signed here had more to do with his salary expectations, age, and overall wear and tear. This team wasn't going to pay him what he wanted for past production because they recognized he's not the player he once was. That guy is long gone. But, to imply he wasn't paid? Hogwash.

Would have loved to have brought MJD back at the right price. I think the rotation would have been nice with Gerhart starting and MJD and some of Todman sprinkled in. But, DC and crew made the smart and right move.

To those belly aching about him getting paid, really? Just take a look at the history.

I am glad he has gotten accustomed to 2 and 4 win seasons, cause playing SD, Denver and KC is going to be real fun when you are a cellar dweller again.

The avg age of the FA Oakland signings is over 30, they are tanking for LA!

You know MJD is wrong when PFT sides with the Jags.

I'm out of the loop with this move, barely able to check even email at this point. Had a few seconds so I see MJD has moved on, good for him hope he does well there. As for us I don't see it as a big loss at all, he's well past his prime and even at a cheap price I'd just prefer to move on.

As for the one guy asking why we still have Marcedes and not MJD remember TE's don't wear down nearly as fast as RB's most have been saying for a while that the way MJD plays he's decline would come fast and it did.

Maurice Jones-Drew | OAK

(March 31, 2014 1:53 PM EDT)

Maurice Jones-Drew's three-year contract with Oakland has a base value of $7.5 million with $1.2 million guaranteed.

The only guaranteed portion is Jones-Drew's 2014 base salary of $1.2 million. There was no signing bonus, and MJD could be released next offseason with no ramification on the Raiders' cap. It's telling that Jones-Drew couldn't do better than this on the market. Oakland now has him "locked up" through age 31.

It's essentially a one year deal. MJD wanted to be closer to home anyway.

That was the dumbest comment he could have made. He signed a 5 year deal, 31 million dollars and he played the whole contract out. Not something you typically see anymore. 5 years, 31 million with his injuries, off field issue is pretty dang good for him.

The belly aching is ridiculous.

I'm sure MJD intentionally rolled up on Joeckel's leg.

Mjd is chasing a ring by going to the Raiders. Or at least that is the latest out of his mouth. NFL.com has an article about it.

He claims Matt Schaub can "definitely" lead a team to the Super Bowl and that the raiders are in 'win now" mode. I hope he doesn't really believe that. He supposedly turned down NE in the process. Whatever!
