Mayock: Manziel better out of college than Kaepernick and Wilson
|

"At some point, you have to trust your gut," Mayock said. "He's got the 'it' factor. He's a playmaker. Number two, his arm is every bit as good as almost every quarterback in this draft, including Blake Bortles. "Finally, I believe he'll learn to win from within the pocket," he said. "If he can learn to win within the pocket and still has the spontaneity and big-play ability, I think you get the best of all worlds." "I think he's a better thrower than either (Colin) Kaepernick or Russell Wilson were when they came out (of college)," Mayock said. We show less advertisements to registered users. I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Not surprisingly, Mayock has Johnny as his #1 QB...here's his QB draft-list in order for those interested.
Mayock's Quarterback ranking 1. Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M 2. Blake Bortles, Central Florida 3. Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville 4. Derek Carr, Fresno State t5. AJ McCarron, Alabama t5. Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois

The closer we get to the draft the more I like Johnny. Probably because I hadn't seen a lot of interviews or him speaking before. I heard all about him being a "punk kid" with "attitude problems" through the media. It seems to me either 1)that was overblown bull or C) He's grown and matured. Either way it scares me less and less about picking Johnny Manziel. If he was 6'4 he'd be the sure fire number one pick.

Thats true, Kaepernick needed a lot of work, and Wilson is close but Wilson smartness is way beyond Manziel, but as a passer Manziel is above him. The only thing I worry about with Johnny is him being able to not expose himself to injury too much

Quote:That was said about Russell Wilson too. I was thinking that as I posted. My biggest question with Johnny remains on the mental aspect of the position. That will make or break him in my opinion. He has the physical ability. He has morw than enough of that regardless of height.
my gut instinct is telling me manziel is going to wind up a jaguar and if that's the case, I only can hope it works.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Well obviously he was better in college, how that translates in the NFL is what we need to find out.
Something that makes me a fan of Manziel possibly becoming a Jaguar is his obvious confidence / doesn't shy away from the spot light, yes a pro day typically does not impact my thoughts on a QB at all, but all the pressure he had on him and for him to come out and be nearly perfect.. that says something.

Quote:Better thrower than Kaepernick? MaybeManziel is a lot better of a passer than Wilson. Quote:<div></div> Trolls gonna troll. ![]()
Quote:Manziel is a lot better of a passer than Wilson. A lot better? Ok, "Fran The Man". In what way is he "a lot better"??? Quote:Manziel is a lot better of a passer than Wilson. Dont see how. Wilson was praised for his accuracy , decision making and mechanics the 3 things that make you a good passer or not. Manziel struggles with decision making and mechanics especially when pressured (which wasnt an issue for wilson he was seen as BETTER once the pressure was closing around him). Sorry but watching the ball leave the hands of the 2 in college Wilson was better. Had Wilson been taller it would have been a slam dunk #1 overall pick as he had virtually zero questions about his game from a mechanics or ability stand point unlike Manziel who should call himself The Riddler. Quote:Manziel is a lot better of a passer than Wilson. No he's not. Quote:I think Bridgewater at 3 is better value than Mack at 3, yes. <div> LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. My question is whether there was so much scrutiny about going through progressions when Favre and Steve Young came into the league. Manziel reminds me of Favre in a sense that he has the athletic skills and while he will dazzle you, he will also make some boneheaded throws. I'm willing to deal with that. Conversely, Bridgewater looks consistent and I think is a lot more athletic then he has shown. Let me go with Alex Smith after Harbaugh developed him. Good, conistent and can make that 10 yard run for a 1st down. Bortles may have Big Ben potential but this may be a stretch since there are still a lot of unknowns.
In all reality, I'd be happy with any of them. I'd be ecstatic with any of them in round 2 -- or a late 1st if we can trade our 2nd & a 5th to get one.. |
