Mayock: Manziel better out of college than Kaepernick and Wilson

<span style="color:rgb(34,34,34);">Look at their college passing stats their freshman and sophomore years. Manziel blows him out of the water. Manziel is only going to get better.  (this isnt a knock on Wilson, I am a huge Wilson fan I see a lot of the same in both guys, but Manziel has a stronger arm.)

Comparing stats is a terrible way to try and tell who's a better passer.

Mayock is just another one that is blinded by the flash and show of Manziel.  Johnny Football to me is all an act and puts on a show.

I usually agree with Mayock but I think this one is all a PR move. Wilson was a more polished passer than Luck coming out. He only fell because of his height.

Not buying this one

I don't think so guys. I think a lot of people(both on these boards and even inside the NFL itself) are beginning to see through the "spin" and are actually speaking more honestly than ever.

I was particularly impressed by Harbaugh's latest quote yesterday about his own intrigue and desire to play with MAnziel

Quote:

“I’d welcome the challenges of taking Johnny Manziel,” Harbaugh said. “(He) sees the field like nobody I’ve ever seen see the field in college football. You’d love to work with that.”

Listen to what he just said guys, honestly for a second, without any bias. Harbaugh, the 49ers coach, known as one of the best QB-gurus in the NFL today, didn't just harp on Johnny because of his ability to run, or throw on the run, or create plays when it all breaks down. He of all people notices and lauds MAnziel's "ability to see the field". Says it's like no-one he's EVER seen in College football, and yes people, this is the same guy who coached Andrew Luck in college.

IMO, it's becoming very hard to hate Manziel anymore. Statements like that by Harbaugh are the very opposite IMO of PR-moves and fanboy adage. Perhaps by this point, it's just the truth.

I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Bad time of year to be listening to coach's opinions on players.

Manziel's Pro day was nothing more than an act.  Put on the helmet, play the music etc...  He creates a side show and loves it.  Once he gets the the NFL those big nasty defense man are going to enjoying breaking a player like him.

I'd also like to note that Mayock is comparing him to a second and third round draft pick....not exactly a great endorsement for him to be drafted at #3, IMO.

I like Manziel a lot more than I did, and if he's supposed to be a first rounder, then he SHOULD be better than those two guys coming out of college.  Just saying.

Draft Mack at #3 then trade back into the first for Manziel... Might as well do it right?

I think you make a valid point Kick.

Although I do think generally that Mayock was playing off the idea that is almost universally agreed upon today, which says that if Kap and Wilson's draft-class were redrafted, knowing what we know now, that they'd both be top-5 picks. And perhaps that's the point Mayock is driving home to teams like Jaguars and others, who passed on Kap and Wilson that year. He hears everybody still crying today, ooooh I wish my team would have picked Kap or Wilson. But Mayock seems to be saying that there is a QB in THIS draft-class that is better than both of them, and some of the same teams(Jaguars included) who 'missed' on Kap and Wilson in past years could be in danger of doing the same to an even better QB in Manziel this year.

That IMO is Mayock's point. I hope that made sense, what do you think Kick?

I think it makes sense, and while I am a huge Manziel fan.....I still don't know if he is worth #3 overall. Just happy it's not my decision to make.

At this point, my thinking is eliminate doubt and fill the biggest need at 3 and take JFF..

If DC thinks Manziel is the Man, go ahead and draft him.  Ideal would be a trade down, with Atlanta moving to 3 to take Clowney, and the Jags at 6 "settling" for a possible franchise QB with Manziel + picking up another key starter with the extra pick (#37 or #68) we gain from trading down.  The only thing is, there'd have to be a Plan B if Johnny wasn't there at 6.  If Bortles, Robinson, and Clowney go 1-2-3, that leaves Mack, Watkins and Manziel, guaranteeing the Jags get one of them.

I don't think Cleveland and/or Oakland would pass on Manziel.  So that leaves Mack, Watkins, and Bridgewater.  I was suprised by Mayocks switch especially with moving Bridgewater down to three.  I have jumped the Manziel wagon, but I liked him before his pro day also.  I watched a lot of him in college being an SEC fan.

Caldwell has a tough decision but it will get a lot easier if Houston takes Manziel first.  In that case we probably get Clowney which I am fine with.

Yeah, that does make sense.  Honestly, I wouldn't hate Manziel at 3 if Clowney is gone, but what really bugs me is how much Mayock has switched up his rankings from just Pro Days.  It makes me feel like he's factoring them into the equation too much, and I really doubt teams have done anything close to that.

If the Jaguars like Manziel enough to draft him at 3, they've liked him for a long time.

Stats have nothing to do with who's a better passer. This isn't Madden bud.
