So, did Manziel make Evans or Evans make Manziel?...

#1

I was listening to some draft talk today and the host of the program was speaking about how in his opinion Manziel was overrated and wouldn't have been nearly the prospect he's seen as if not for having WR Mike Evans make so many plays over his career.

Thoughts?

Evans is a good receiver, but Manziel made guys like Travis Lamphart and Derell Walker, Micheal Kennedy look like All Americans. While Evans certainly didn't hurt Manziel, he didn't "Make" him.

I rolled on the floor laughing, With all those missed reads in the pocket Manziel had to improvise. If he had just stuck to the play book (or just be Teddy Bridgewater) A&M would have been in the National Title hunt late

Evans will be a very good player. Calvin Johnson-esque if he pans out.

They helped each other just like Megatron helps Matt Stafford.

Manzeil is not in Top 5 discussion without Evans in my opinion.

Johnny made Evans.  He was a nobody until JFF took over.

I don't think the question of "Who made who?" will ever be answered, because it's a stupid question. Neither guy "made" the other one. They are both first-round NFL talent who made each other better.
I think a far more telling question and one that we can actually answer confidently is "Who followed who to the NFL?"

Quote:<div>"He should be the clear-cut No. 1 pick, especially for the Texans,” Evans said. “He may just be the quarterback they’re looking for. He’s the best talent available.”

Evans also gave some insight into how both players made their decision to leave Texas A&M early with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

“If Johnny was leaving, I was going to leave,” Evans said. “I had a feeling he was going to leave. I discussed it with my family and Coach [Kevin] Sumlin. Coach said it was the best for me.

“[The decision was made] After the bowl game. We were roommates. I asked him what he was going to do. He told me. I based my decision off of that.”

IMO, if the radio-mouth was right, it should have been the other way around. It should be "that overrated A&M qb" who is talking about following the greatest WR in college football with all the accolades and heismans, into the NFL. But Evans, who I don't personally perceive to be a very humble guy, actually spoke quite humbly I think. I think both benefited from each other, but from every indication, it is clear that it was Manziel of the two of them that was steering the ship/leading the way. Both on the field, and into the NFL.

I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

edit: Just to be clear in my last post, I did not mean that your OP or question was "stupid" Mad Dog. I was referring to the radio host you heard today. Sorry, I just reread my post a second ago and it sounded incredibly rude. Your thread question is a good one, I was talking about the radio.

Probably a little of both, but IMO more Johnny than not based on scout's appraisals of his sloppy route running.  A lot of plays were broken, given him a chance to find holes in the defense and required he quit on routes to help his QB.

Nobody made anybody. They both possess skills that are independent of one another.

ROFL to both of these! Posts liked and 5-stars for you both. Made me laugh out loud, twice.

This is one of the smartest and most thought-provoking posts I've read on here in a long time. Still pondering its ramifications on Evans as a draft-prospect.......

ESPN made Tebow a college football analyst.  Don't know if he'll start or come in off the bench.   :whistling:

Considering he had 3000 yards passing not including Evans I would say JF had plenty to do with the end result.
