2024 AFC South

As good as Houston and CJ were last year, it took a monumental collapse by us for them to win the division. In all likelihood, that won't happen again. They were a week 17 loss by them and win from us away from missing the playoffs completely.
Houston has a much tougher schedule, and the spotlight on them. CJ got very lucky for most of the year last year. I think they will be good, but not the world beaters the media is portraying them to be. Also hoping Diggs brings a ton of sideline/locker room drama when he's not the main focal point this year. Indy is a toss up. They're going to live or die by AR and I just don't know if he can get it done at this point. He's inaccurate and was fragile as a rookie, that can only take you so far. He's not getting benched except for injury but I actually think Flacco would be better for them. Tennessee is definitely the weakest of the group. Levis looks relatively competent and should grow a little this year but I have concerns with Ridley. With DHop out and being the forced #1 it's going to struggle, especially when he's already having issues in camp with energy and drops. He and Trevor killed it in camp last year and we saw what that did on the field when it mattered, I don't expect better in TN. It will be nice to not have Henry gash us for 100+ yards twice this year though

Thus, you above statement should reflect a Week 17 Jags win OR a Texans loss and they would have been out. Both the Jags and Colts blew their playoff opportunities last season. If I recall correctly (as well), the Colts did something stupid to lose their game to the Texans in week 17 as well.

The winner of the Indy-Texans game was going to the playoffs and the loser wasn't; regardless of the Jaguars performance. The Jaguars losing gave the Texans the AFC Championship and home-field in the wildcard. PS. ![]()

But statistically he was an anomaly who should have had many more turnovers. He'll regress to the mean in that department and we'll see what he does. Again, he's very good, and I'm pissed the Houston has him. But everyone claiming him to be a top 5 QB and whatnot has to pump their brakes a bit. Let's see what he does moving forward. A lot of QBs had great rookie years (sure not as good as CJ, but good) and then fizzled out. RG3, Baker, Mac to a degree, Dak can't win [BLEEP], Wentz, Jameis. All had pretty damn good rookie years and haven't done a thing with it. If you put any stock into ESPN's QBR (which I personally don't like much) he was middle of the pack. Slightly above Trevor but below Geno and Minshew. He had a 1% INT last year, even the best of all time average around 2-3% except for Rodgers who's at a career 1.4% I don't think Houston has to worry about QB for a long time, but I just need to see it again. If he continues to be a statistical anomaly, then damn, you guys got super lucky. We need to be aware of everyone in our division, espaissley that thorn in our side the tittians. they also beat us last year in the final game. I'm just saying jags need to be aware of them. They stink like rotten crotch. They got rid of their best player and to the best of my knowledge didn't hire any cheating lowlifes to the coaching staff. We good. That's all anyone needs to be aware of.

The Jaguars losing gave the Texans the AFC Championship and home-field in the wildcard. I was actually looking for a 'passes defended stat for QBs', but didn't have any luck finding a list. I would assume that if CJ Stroud was 'extra lucky' in terms of interceptions, that he would have a lot more passes defended per pass than his interception rate per pass (in relation.) Essentially that the opposing CB/S/LB had his hands on the ball, but wasn't able to reel it in. On the other hand if his defended pass per attempt was low, then I think you (the evaluator) would have to agree that his accuracy/timing/decision-making was the result of his success and not just luck that the CB/S/LB couldn't reel in the ball. (I realize there are other factors in passes defended, but I think that's a good start.) There's no doubt that all QBs throw more 'bad balls,' than shows up on the interception stat. They all get 'lucky' in that sense, but I'm interested in 'how lucky' a QB is. All that being said, said I do think that 5 INTs for the season is certainly going to be unsustainable. But I think the TD/INT rate will be in a reasonable ballpark of 23 TDs - 5 INTs. One thing no one talks about from last year, is that if you erase the 2 concussion games he was sidelined and put in avg stats he would have led the league in total pass yards, as he led all QBs in pass yards/game. In terms of QBR, I think that it's completely nonsense for two main reasons. 1. It's a 'super secret formula' to calculate it that can't be openly verified. 2. If you agree that the QB is not completely responsible for wins and losses, I would expect that the losing teams QB would have out-dueled the winning teams QB in terms of QBR way more than that stat has historically shown. From what I can tell it's basically some form of (TD - INT) + (Yards/pass) + (Did the team win X 80.)

The hope has paid off! 213 yards (mostly by Mixon) against a pretty stout Colts DL. Stroud was good but not great today, so it was nice to move it through the ground. The Texans were able to seal the game, with a fantastic 11-yard 3rd down catch by Nico Collins, and then it by running it for another first down.

Deforest Buckner and Grover Stewart are pretty darned stout. They signed Laiatu Latu at the top of the draft. Dayo Odeyingbo/EJ Speed (and company) round out a upper tier Dline.

He under threw a couple of deep routes (one was still caught by Nico Collins but it should have been a TD if the ball was right,) and he made a few off target throws (ie. sailing a short screen draw over Mixon's head.) But he still has that "It" factor. Game sealing throw. I also have to admit to imtheblkranger that CJ did get (extra) lucky, he tried to lob a ball out-of-bounds but didn't throw it hard enough. A Colts player came down with the ball but his foot was ever so slightly on the white out-of-bounds marker. There was another one, but it was clear that 2 of the Colts DBs were hugging/dragging down the WRs when the ball was in the air and the refs called one of the two.
