I think they're pinched right now due to the amount of injuries they've taken with the secondary group. We're still not seeing enough pressure from a presence standpoint within the interior. Maybe if we had a healthy Campbell on the outside, maybe a tighter nickel/in the box safety situation with Savage & Wingard back in the mix, we'd probably get just a hair or two back timing wise for the pass rush to actually hit home from around the edge. We absolutely missed Oluokon last weekend. I also think Lloyd was getting used more and more as an added rusher and there's a lot of opportunities there to get exploit moving forward. I have minimal complaints with this defense. Other than a few areas. Which is all situational and that comes with gelling and coaching getting it right with the players, which, again, it's hard to do that optimally when your best players are not available on the football field. They have kept the games close, competitive and interesting. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Another solid game by Miller outside of the one bs penalty. He's been a great 4th round pick and looks like a future starter

I'm not sure how we're gonna deal with the abundance of talent at LB and the lack of real pass rush by the front 4. Man, if we could just figure out how to blitz 5 every now and then without getting burned, this D would be legendary. So long as our Secondary gets rid of 26!
He’s undersized but looks like he’s got great instincts.

But there was a moment where the ball was thrown to the flat and Miller just did an absolute superman to blow up the blockers and cut out the runner at the ankles. He must have dived and flown and skidded head first for 10 yards diagonally to get there. That type of athleticism is pretty unique. We show less advertisements to registered users. On or 2 looked at a 40 time that someone posted online when he never even ran a 40 and called him slow lol. His biggest strength is sideline to sideline/ closing speed. It's people that don't watch games.

And also did anyone notice the clot got called for the same gesture BTJ got called for last Sunday? Carp's not wrong, Johnson has at least one bad play for every good out there, he's great at laying lumber but sometimes we need smart play over aggression.
Just putting this here since a week ago we were discussing the coverage aspects of Miller/Lloyd/Foye
This graph shows one reason we need a healthy Foye out there and that Lloyd isn't as bad as the haterz let on Regardless, I love Miller's play vs the run and hope his coverage ability develops as the other two guys become too expensive in time https://twitter.com/throwthedamball/stat...6506513490 (10-09-2024, 09:09 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: Just putting this here since a week ago we were discussing the coverage aspects of Miller/Lloyd/Foye Was just about to post this lol. The same people were saying that about Bigsby last year and Johnson is just about the same guy. He's showing to be good around the LOS and a solid run stuffer. I just don't think he's long term as a Mike and too slow to be a starter at Will. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

He's still young, and I shouldn't be so pessimistic about him. And of course their hatred is off topic. Getting back on Topic... Ventrel Miller was drafted by Baalke... Just like Johnson. There are dudes that think Baalke is trash. I wonder if we should look at their prior blunders? I always favor the players. I'm happy Ventrel is getting his chance to shine. Hopefully we can continue to develop the players we draft. flsprtsgod pointed out how Johnson is still young and can develop. I conceded that point. I'm sure that flsprtsod has trust that Baalke made the right pick. Especially since it's clear that Miller was a great pick up. Dude is balling!!!

Baalke makes some good picks, I've never denied that, and I also regularly tell you goofs to give these kids time to develop before you trash them (see Strange and Tank discussion from the last 12 months as an example). I also disagree with Baalke's fundamental process for building a team because he spends valuable capital on less valuable pieces. He's the guy who puts a fart can on his '02 Civic to make the 87hp hamster mobile sound like a muscle car when he had the money to buy a V8 Charger instead. When they took Bigsby that was the investment of a 1st, 3rd, 5th, and two 6th round picks into the running back position over three seasons while stuck with a line that's ineffective at run blocking. Does that make Bigsby a good or bad player? No, but he's a costly one; the value and opportunity cost are the issues. In the case of Miller I think the guy was taken to fit the old scheme and he'll have a low ceiling in the new one, that doesn't stop me from cheering for him when he's playing. Carp, you get way too emotional and hyperbolic over these players. You go so high and so low on them that you're constantly at war with yourself when they don't meet your expectations or when they outperform them. That's why you say stuff like "the O-line has played good all year" that's demonstrably untrue or when you continually harp on the play calling, you have to distort the past to buttress your current opinion. No one is trying to discredit you, they're trying to get you to see reality. It's not yet clear that Miller was a great pick, the guy's played like 5 games and only played really good in the tinhorns game. He's also injury prone and at 6 foot 220# just the size of a strong safety. He's definitely taking his opportunity and running with it, and I hope he keeps playing at this level, but if (when) he reverts to the mean you'll be going ape [BLEEP] about how he's not playing up to your standards. Edit: just reflecting on this, Miller is also 25 years old. It's crazy to think that he's older than Trevor Lawrence but TLaw's been in the League 2 full seasons more than Miller. We really took a baby right out of the bassinet and threw him in the deep end of the pool, “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
