I think MJD kept this team from being winless one or two years if that counts.

At this point that should tell you if he should be in or not.  In my opinion, I would choose Fred and keep MJD out of the ring of honor.  Good player, but he has done some questionable things while on this team.

In the prime of his career, Fred Taylor's game was on par with some of the best that EVER played the position in the NFL. Can't say the same for MoJo. MoJo = very good NFL RB, but not on Fred's level as a runner. Not even close.

I think you are letting the fact that MoJo was more of a complete RB affect your decision. Fred never was all that good in blitz pickup....MoJo was competent at it. 

 

As a pure runner and what they did as a runner,  its not close. Fred >>> MoJo

Exactly. Why wouldn't I? In this day and age, you have to be more than a runner, and that applies even to Adrian Peterson. 

 

I think people tend to exaggerate the margin between Fred and MJD. MJD was still a great runner and was capable of big play runs just like Fred was. The difference was that Fred Taylor was a bit more agile and MJD was a bit more powerful, and neither of them significantly more over the other. People tend to forget that MJD had some great moves of his own too.

 

But what makes me put prime MJD over prime Taylor is that MJD can lay claim to multiple 3 touchdown days in receiving, rushing, and returning, and points ultimately win games.

 

If you asked me who I'd select over a career, that's a pretty easy question though. But for one game or one season in their prime? I'll take MJD.

Your blurb here brings up a valid point. That Ring of Honor is for the fans and more importantly the fans that go to the stadium. When fans go there, and they see a name on the Ring, they not only remember the player, they remember their own participation in the crowd for when he was there.

 

They remember being in the stands and watching as the guy burst through the line or caught an unreal pass or made a crazy tackle or whatever. They remember not just what they saw, but the smell that was in the stadium, how it sounded when everyone else erupted, how it freaking felt to be there when the player made a great play. You simply cannot reproduce that memory that's in the fans' mind.

 

I would imagine that the fan whose butt is actually in the seat, and is paying the team to drink their beer and eat their food is a whole lot more important than the fan who is sitting at a BW3.

But comparing the memories as being the same is like comparing the memories of the first time you got laid vs the first time you watched a skin flick on tv.

Anyway... Funny how Freddy is being compared to Mojo and some claims of him being better, yet the memory of his Fragile Fred moniker forgotten. we remember the good. Both guys left it all on the field. Fred even left the nads. I remember that game as well.

Same will go for MJD... In a few years, his on field performances will be what we remember.... When we remember a certain play and 60,000 fans chanting Drewwwwwww. You had to be there.

MJD deserves his place in the Pride. He was and still to a point a game changing player.

He also played into the transition of the running to passing game era.

The current game has a need for Backs, but as we have seen, passing is first, running is second by a larger margin.

I do not begrudge the business decision he made, he got paid by the Raiders and the Jaguars did not value his services at that level.

In the end, it is all about securing your future as a player and if another team will pay you a last big contract, you take it.

 

Fans have the right to feel the way they feel, but to base absolute black and white decisions on your feelings is an emotional decision.

Emotional decisions are what they are and what they are composed of.

 

Mojo deserves his spot in the Pride.

Fans have the right to be upset, it hurts when your choice for face of the franchise leaves.

The person your cheered you guts out for, the person you rewatch gash the colts over and over.

 

So I feel moron might be a little strong, but I do understand your point of view.

 

I would ask those upset, wwyd. You have been offered a new job with a excellent sign on bonus, far beyond what most all of us would see.

You can move back to your home, where you grew up and went to school. Maybe play for three more seasons, then hang it up if you want to.

Never having to worry about finances again and your not even 40.

I disagree.   I saw them both, in the stadium, live, for almost every game they played.   Fred Taylor was incredible.   MJD was very very good, maybe great, but Fred Taylor was a solid notch above MJD.

Thank you. That play was incredible, especially given the situation. I don't think another RB in the entire league is able to execute that play at that time, other than Fred. On the flip side, I don't think there was ever a moment you could say those same words about MoJo. He was very good, but simply wasn't on the level of a Fred Taylor.

I'd take MJD in a heart beat.   Freddie T played behind Boselli, Searcy, Meester (in him pirme) ... and had a good passing attack to spread the field.

 

MJD played behind the worst offensive line in the NFL over that period of time.  He had the worst passing game in the NFL -- think about it (Leftwich, Garrard, Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, Sims-Walker ..... heck we even had Mike Thomas as our go to guy)
