Offensive Line 2024

Good to see him get back to form. Those numbers are why many thought he would bounce outside to tackle, he a bit too finesse to maul guys inside but he's got good feet as he's shown downfield a few times since he got here.

How Trevor regards the O line. At least until they consistently prove themselves.

This game might be physical, it could have the same feeling as the Buffalo Bills game in London from last year. Hopefully we can get a big day out of Etienne on the ground. Feels like he's overdue honestly.

Yeah he is overdue.  The reports of ETN's demise in the wake of Tank's ascendancy have been greatly exaggerated.  He's getting reduced usage as we've been hoping for to extend his durability for a long 17 game season plus playoffs.

Both of them have honestly taken a few good shots this year that put them out mid game or at least a series or two. They're about 50/50 right now production wise. It's a good problem to have. At some point, they'll need to start using more split backfield looks and getting creative with them.

Etienne is severely underutilized in the passing game in my opinion. Would like to see more of them out there together with Etienne being motioned out into the slot or out wide and you can mix and match this with Bigsby maybe getting a quick dump off if the defense is caught looking too heavily in one direction.

Lloyd needs to go. He's basically K'Lavon Chaisson playing Inside Linebacker. for the rest of his rookie deal i'd try and make him bulk up and see if he can be a pass rusher/on ball linebacker. But anyone with this amount of mental errors and missed assignments probably isn't cut out for the NFL.

That lack of Hustle is just all kinds of AWFUL. I'd consider cutting him just to send a message.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

That's, uh, not accurate.

Whether you are running a gap scheme or a zone scheme there are a dozen ways one scheme to the next can be more or less complex.

BTW - rpr52121 - Pederson has spoken out on altering his run blocking scheme twice this offseason and the first time he brought it up he used the word "simplify"

Because yes, several of the plays and the multiple variations on those plays had too many bells and whistles for the 11 guys to execute consistently. They went full keystone cops at times trying to pull it off. Of course when two guys out of the 5 are getting ragdolled on 70% of the snaps, that doesn't help either. Timing was there biggest nemesis, which happens when you have a guard, a tackle, a TE, and another TE all not blocking the guy traditionally lined up in front of them during a snap - and that's after trying to set up misdirection with your pre snap motion that put your back or one of the TEs in a weird spot to pull off their assignment.

That's a lot of moving parts that need to engage the right defender at the right moment to spring a back.  Pederson loves that kind of stuff.

It goes WELL beyond just a pulling guard.

Yea, well said. That is what it looked like to me too.

Revisiting this old post as Pederson is now confirming they have been simplifying the run blocking scheme and it's working.

Obviously some tougher defenses coming up on the schedule so we'll see how it pans out in those matchups, but I'm glad it's happening regardless.

DOUG:

Quote:"You're seeing the consistency upfront," Pederson said. "We've scaled back on the amount of run scheme, keeping it simple for those guys so we can call the same plays multiple times in games. It has been good for them. It gives them a lot of confidence, too, knowing they can go out knowing exactly what's going to happen and just go execute.

"It has been good that we've had the five guys together."

It would have been great if they started the season doing that. It was basically the same OL as last year and everyone knew they couldn't run it.

Did he just recycle the same thing he said this time last year?

The consistency and same guys playing together part was something he harped on last year.
The scheme simplification is new.

And he said he was going to do this scheme simplification during the offseason, but they started the year with ETN running behind largely the same batch of plays that failed last year.
Glad they are making changes - baffled as to why they didn't happen in July instead of October.

Yeah. We're at least 4 - 4 or 5 - 3 if a lot of those are executed. Makes you sick.

I am wondering how many bounced off the receivers.

He really should. Look at Jared Goff and now Bo Nix. I mean, they're out there catching TD passes. Why isn't he doing the same?

I don't have that number, but looking at splits by field position we can get some pretty telling info:

Rush attempts inside the 10 yard line:
24 ATTEMPTS - 5 TDs

Pass inside the 10:
20 attempts - 6 TDs

If you move back to include the entire redzone in these numbers  -  then there are EIGHTY more pass attempts but only 3 additional TDs -

OOOF!

That's 122 pass attempts inside the 20 and only 9 touchdowns as a result.
Gotta be one of the worst percentages in the league for RZ scoring.

Luckily they do better with the run this year than last when near the goal line.
