Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

The Jags are looking to throw deep on about 25-30% of their passes.

They have passed out of play action 62 times out of 243 attempts.
And that's when most of the deep balls have happened.

Lawrence is 11th in the league in yards per attempt. (7.9)

None of this suggests that they are forcing anything. Not even close.

The only issue with their new and improved play action game is that the OL can't always hold up long enough to get the throw out cleanly.

Agreed, the only change I would make is to say new bigger and stronger OL ....Smile

LOL

Welp... they got a bigger and stronger center?  Does that count?

The 20 yard passes are actually a problem. All the winning teams take the shorter, open routes. The reason he leads the league is because they force it as the #1 option.

It's fine to take a look but he shouldn't be throwing it deep that much.

Half credit. We shopped at the dollar store and like Atlanta did gave our new DC deference during the draft.
A new broom always sweeps clean.

Of all the thoughtful, logical posts on this board over its long history this ranks pretty much at the bottom.

"How can I spin this negatively?"  LOL

This is on Trevor but i think MOSTLY coaching. WHY NOT RUN THE BALL?? You needed to take time off the clock, they had 2 time outs with 1:40 to play. WHY even have an option to throw to our 3RD stringer!! SUCH HORRIBLE COACHING

It's going to be one of those weeks again isn't it.

Sigh

I was gonna say that even though I didn't watch the game last week, he had a good TD drive at the end (from what I could watch on NFLN replay), great throw to Engram (great catch too)f or the TD... this week though...

I am a fan, not a cheerleader.

We got jekyll and Hyde today.

We weren’t in the game without him but he made a boneheaded play. He’ll learn. He’s been improving his turnovers all year and playing with warm bodies today.

Dammit Trevor. Oh well. It gets Doug fired quicker

How attractive do you think the job opening is going to be with a mid QB that's paid like he's elite?

We weren't in this game (and some of the others) WITH him as well.

Offense can't decide to finally start getting their first 1st down in the 3rd quarter or start scoring after halftime - while the defense has been holding the opposition for most of the games this season...

This post just exposed your ignorance

It’s been broken down multiple times in this thread with his contract that he doesn’t get paid as “elite” until later in his contract and by then other QBs will have received new deals.

I agree to a certain extent that the offense including Trevor bears some blame for the slow starts. I think however the first 15 is more on the coaches. We are so so predictable. And every week the defenses know. And we don’t adjust. It’s why we are still scoreless in the first for what seems like forever

He presses sometimes when he doesn’t need to which is my main criticisms.

It doesn’t absolve him of blame but I for the life of me can’t imagine why any nfl coach who’s supposedly an offensive guru decides to run that play with 2 minutes left. Even the announcer said don’t rush it. You got two minutes. Slow it down

Dude was missing OL starters and 2 WRs. He did some magic with what he had. I can't say for certain what all went on with that last play in the red-zone. But, it wasn't smart at all whoever called it. I'd like to know the full breakdown there.

When the game is on the line, Count on Lawrence to turn the ball over

Like last week? Or against the colts?

He’s proven he can win games.

Today was not that day unfortunately

Yah they do. And even the QBs better then Lawrence put up worse numbers with injuries like this

He’s the kind of QB where we have to through weird cherry-picked stats just to defend his performance

Instead of his play on the field just doing that all on its own

not going to lie... that was a crazy play call to win the game you throw to your 3rd string rb in the endzone? wow lol.
