In the space of just a sure on the Congress, including siccing his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) attack dogs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy on reckless spending, turned a 1,500 page monstrosity of a bill into a slim 120-page banger of basic necessities, including disaster relief and help for farmers…

The fact that they are celebrating the number of *pages* in the bill should be a clue as to whether this was actually the big win Republicans wanted.

Normally in an actual win, one celebrates something that actually matters.

Cutting thousands of pages of unneeded giveaways is worthy of celebration. But wait, there's more!

LOL they are celebrating

A LOT of the spending is no longer there and has been cut. (despite reports to the otherwise.)
What is not there anymore? Well a few examples....

The 70 page section that would have given the government the legal right to force vaccines on the public, masks,  etc
The funding of an additional 12 gain of function labs (aka covid came from one of those)
3 million to study how the testers test and approve molasses. NOT the testing, grading the testers (a bunch of this kind of poop)
Giving DC free federal land for a stadium.  (This was passed later and while I disagree oh well, win some, lose some)
The J6 Committee protection provision
A department agency associated with censorship has been cut
Member of congress pay raises (including the annual 3.8% auto increase yearly)
The Pre funding until 2026  of a few agencies that will face DOGE interest.
There are many more this was just a sample.

What is there is the disaster relief not only for the citizens but military as well.
The extension of Farm bill
Other maintenance stuff that would have had to be done.  Some does appear to be refilling reserves where the money was reallocated to "something" ?
This is all "stuff" left over from the Biden term. Trump should have a clean start so he cannot whine about that unless they missed something.

The first 100 pages of the original bill had 100 billion of spending in it. Time 15 would be about 1.5 trillion dollars.
This one came in about half of that. So yea the taxpayers are celebrating the reduction of some waste. You have an issue with that?.

ps put the stadium in just for you as I know it was one of your hot buttons.
A new broom always sweeps clean.

As a Democrat, I hope these are the kind of wins that satisfy Republicans for the next session of Congress. Let the number of pages be your key metric of #winning.

So what you're saying is that you don't understand that those pages represented billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I'm not surprised at all.

Maybe Congress can pass universal health care into law too, but as a compromise, we can make sure the page count is small.  Laughing

Trump wanted the debt ceiling eliminated until the end of his presidency. Did that happen?

A department agency associated with censorship has been cut

While GEC's funding has been cut, the Administrative State (corrupt DC bureaucratic swamp) is moving (hiding) the GEC's staff and activities to 'other bureaus', only to continue their censoring activities.

Quote:The State Department sent a notification to Congress that it plans to terminate an agency accused of censoring conservatives after losing support from lawmakers, according to a court filing and a source familiar with the correspondence.

In the filing, attorneys for the State Department said the agency told lawmakers on Friday of its plan to move the Global Engagement Center's staff and funding to other bureaus aimed at fighting foreign disinformation. The filing was made public as part of a lawsuit brought by conservative media outlets against the State Department over its funding of the Global Disinformation Index, a fact first reported by the Washington Examiner in 2023 that sparked congressional oversight and a flurry of lawsuits.

The Global Engagement Center, an office housed within the State Department, was launched in 2016 and was intended to be reauthorized after eight years. But following reports from the Washington Examiner and journalist Matt Taibbi in connection to the "Twitter Files," House Republicans grew increasingly frustrated with the GEC and its ties to apparent efforts to censor speech.

In part, their discontentment grew from the fact that the Global Disinformation Index, which received $100,000 from the GEC, crafted a blacklist of conservative media outlets and fed it to advertising companies to strip right-leaning websites of revenue.

"The GEC is guilty of the highest crime an agency of its kind can commit: that it weaponed itself," Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who led the charge pushing not to reauthorize the GEC, told the Washington Examiner.

The Dems, Libs, progs, and their allies in the Administrative State (corrupt DC bureaucratic swamp), appear to be hell bent on censoring, suppressing, silencing conservative voices by their core value of 'By any means necessary'.

But really, "Jag149" why are you avoiding my question? It's fairly easy to answer...

How’d that debt ceiling demand work out?

Pharmacy benefit managers sure are happy with how everything worked out.
Your pharmacy insurance is probably vastly overpaying for drugs and passing that cost on to you.
If you can, go directly to a discount pharmacy and do not tell them about your insurance, and you will actually pay less out of pocket, if your prescription is available generic.

Trump was fine with it. Musk blew it up so Trump jumped on the bandwagon and made demands that were laughed out of the Republican Congress.

Musk make Trump look like a clown and now they are trying to pull a Pee Wee.

and Kamella
Kamaliar isn't terrible - it's better than Kamella - but your name-calling needs a lot of work. I suggest taking some time to study your MAGA betters who have coined gems such as Kameltoe and Kamala Kameleon, or stick to the Trump-approved Kamabla. Remember that you should not venture into new territory when it comes to demonizing the leftist filth if you're not adequately skilled. Too many MAGA listen to AM radio for a few hours, convince themselves that they know how to own the liberals in a fresh new way, then face-plant like you did. Instead, they could have taken a couple of years to prepare, to study, to practice in solitude before embarrassing Donald, Eric and Lara with something like 'Kamella'.

Next time, Be Best

It's actually a good idea to eliminate the debt ceiling.  I'm totally in favor of that.  It's a stupid like exercise every few months where the Congress debates whether the United States will default on its debts.  That's literally exactly what it is.  Congress passes spending bills and then it debates whether they will pay for the things in all those spending bills that they passed.  What a ridiculous and dangerous exercise.
