Georgia appeals court disqualifies DA Fani Willis and her team from Trump election interference case

Georgia court rules Willis and her office have 'no authority to proceed'

A Georgia court of appeals disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team from prosecuting President-elect Donald Trump in his election interference case on Thursday.

The court did not toss Trump's indictment entirely, but Willis and the assistant DAs working in her office now have "no authority to proceed."

Should add another "n" to her name.  It would be more fitting.

Has nothing to do with the merits of the case.

CNN Melts Down Over Fani Willis' Disqualification From Trump Case

This decision has been weeks in the making. The longer it took, the more incriminating it looked for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The Georgia RICO case against the president-elect got in trouble when it was revealed that Willis and her top prosecuting attorney on her team, Nathan Wade, had an improper relationship that wasn’t disclosed. It led to the Trump legal team highlighting rightly that there are questions of ethics, character, and conflicts of interest, which the courts agreed. Now, as Mia wrote yesterday, Willis has been disqualified from the case:

Georgia lawmakers can subpoena Fani Willis for information related to Trump case, court rules
A Georgia court of appeals previously disqualified Willis and her team from prosecuting Trump in his election interference case

A Georgia judge has ruled that state lawmakers can subpoena Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis as part of an inquiry into whether she engaged in misconduct during her prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump.

In his Dec. 23 order, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shukura Ingram gave Willis until Jan. 13 to file a list of claimed privileges and objections to anything that has been subpoenaed.

Willis plans to appeal the decision.

Georgia AG urges state Supreme Court to reject DA Willis’ appeal in Trump case
Fani Willis was disqualified from the election interference case against President-elect Trump earlier this month

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr is urging the state Supreme Court to reject an appeal by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, after she was removed from the election interference case against President-elect Trump.

Earlier this month, a Georgia court of appeals disqualified Willis from the Georgia election interference case against Trump and others, citing an "appearance of impropriety." The panel also cited the romantic relationship between Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

DA Willis Ordered To Pay Big Fine For Violations In Trump Case

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been ordered to pay over $54,000 in attorney fees for violating Georgia’s Open Records Act, according to court documents.

The dispute arose from Willis’ office failing to provide records requested by defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant, who represents Michael Roman, a former campaign and White House aide to President Donald Trump. Roman was indicted alongside Trump in the Georgia election interference case, which Willis brought in 2023 and is currently unresolved, Newsweek reported.

Friday’s ruling represents another setback for Fani Willis and her case against Trump and the other defendants, the outlet noted further.
