Coaching Firings/ Personnel Changes

The next HC will be one of the three categories:

- Former coach/rethread who is over 60 year olds
- College coach with some black mark on his record
- Special Teams coordinator that has been passed over way too many times.

This press conference is going to be interesting.

Hopefully the Jacksonville media let them know exactly how this fan base feels right now.

Baalke is basically Khan's Press Taylor at this point.

I don't know. I think they'll take a flyer on an unknown commodity this time. I could see them going after Liam Coen, Joe Brady and Kellen Moore as top tier targets while looking at other names like Wes Philips and Klint Kubiak.

Throw enough money at them and they'll probably bite. There's been two catches mentioned so far already about the next coach that's hired.

1. The coach will report directly to the owner. Big whoop. This was the same deal for Pederson.

2. It's Baalke's final year on his contract if I am not mistaken. It's possible Khan moves on in 2026 and allows the coach to make the decision on a GM that he wants to work with or they both fail epically and we're picking again inside the top five.

Thus, a full reboot.

Apparently Nielsen and the other defensive coaches are still under contract for 2 more years and may be able to ride this out?

I don't see any of those three trusting Baalke no matter the money. I also don't see Khan being the type of guy to overpay to get his coach unless they have some kind of pedigree (like Meyer).

All three of those guys will get another opportunity without needing to make a deal with the Devil.

I'm actually more worried that if the plan is to ride out Baalke's contract, then Shad would name Tony as the GM.

Most Jags fans-“ this is a talented roster, #1 landing spot for a HC”
Media- “this is a loaded roster, #1 landing spot for a HC”
Baalke- “check out BTJ and Cam Little, I’m a god “

If everyone is saying it’s a loaded roster, #1 HC landing spot- does that not indicate the GM is doing his job?

Now myself- I’m on the record saying this is a PISS POOR roster. I don’t believe this is a loaded roster by any means. I believe we need a full roster reconstruction. When you lose 52-6 and 47-10 to the 2 top teams in the conference’s, that should tell you it’s BAD.

The fact is Khan fell for the media and fan bait by saying this is a loaded roster and #1 HC option spot. Disgusting.

This is a roster with 2 #1 picks, a lot of high picks and big ticket FA. This should be an absolutely loaded roster. The problem is the big ticket FA'S have largely been disappointments and behind the top 5 picks, there's not much talent from the later round picks.

This was the argument behind the scenes. Baalkes built a good roster and Doug isn't getting the best out of it. Doug argued the roster wasn't great and the additions didn't take us forwards.

Shad has taken Baalkes side and thinks a new coach gets this roster back into the playoffs.

I wish Baalke had been let go, too, but at the same time, I think this roster is a lot better than 4-13.

I wonder who the coach is that he interviewed. Ben Johnson or Coen?

We fire Doug and keep Baalke.

JagFan81, did the Tennessee organization confirm they are keeping Brian Callahan?  I saw Jim Irsay's statement regarding Indianapolis retaining Chris Ballard and Steve Sheichen but haven't seen anything regarding Amy Adams Strunk making a statement?

I definitely understand and respect the disappointment (and well beyond) you and the overwhelming majority of other passionate Jaguars have regarding the decision Shad Khan made. I'm wondering if Khan will change his mind about the Jags GM situation if the HC search process doesn't go well?

My only argument against would be there are certain times when people become available that you want. If Ben Johnson is available this offseason, he's not likely going to be for a few years. You need things to align and I fear keeping Baalke, even if it's just for next season, means we don't get Johnson, we end up wasting a year and back here again next offseason when we don't have a standout candidate available and we settle again.

I mean why not? Let's extend Khan's half measures to now just firing half the coaching staff every few years.

Baalke deserves to get canned on negligence alone for not obtaining a quality OL. Idiotic to keep him but not surprising unfortunately

That may be true, but Baalke is way too married to BAP and choosing the best athletes to build a championship worthy team.

Even in San Fran, the only reason they made the SB that year was because they were one of the first teams to full try the spread running QB bit and they opted for it mid season so other teams couldn't adjust. That  and because Atlanta always blows big leads in the playoffs.

Are we sure that Baalke is not retiring at 2pm? If he stays this is another typical Shad flop and why this franchise stays in the toilet.

From what I've seen with the T*tans, apparently the FO are very disappointed with the season and people are worried some changes may happen but they haven't announced anything and don't seem to be any rumours/leaks that any are happening. It seems like they are being given another year, maybe sacrifice a DC/OC but sounds like most are staying.

I think what our main frustrations are is that the fanbase has seen the same weak areas of the roster for years and it never gets addressed I'm ways that fix it. Well add a FA or draft pick but it's never a solution, always a bodge fix. It seems HC's are blamed but Baalke gets away. They have a press conference in 45 minutes with Baalke and Shad so will be interesting to hear what they say.

The last time we went HC searching only Doug seemed willing to work with Baalke and he got the boot over Baalke. I'm not sure how many top candidates put themselves in the same position, especially with so many vacancies available.

Also congratulations on the #1 seed. Lions have been a great team to watch this year. Rooting for you guys in the playoffs

Makes no sense." "Simply unreal." This is the sentiment around much of the NFL after the retention of GM Trent Baalke.

I saw a link for YouTube earlier. Think it's on the official Jags channel.

And I think that's what the Baalke vs Doug fight boiled down to. 10 L's by 1 score is easy to blame on the HC and staff.  They certainly had a hand in it but the big ticket FA'S did very little aswell.

"Yeah, not sure where this notion of me retiring is coming from. I have done a great job building this roster over the past four, five years. I tired to tell Doug over the last two years that we needed better player development. You can see how well my second year players have looked from the 2024 draft class. They've had that potential all along. Just takes good coaching to get that out of them more timely.

We'll have ten draft picks in this draft class coming up in 2025 to work with. As well as free agency before that draft in March. Ideally, my next coach will have a clear vision and understanding of how I personally think and feel an NFL team should behave and operate. I don't like the zone running scheme. I believe in more pre snap motion. Look at how I evaluate and draft my defensive lineman, folks, you think I wanted these undersized, twinkle toe types along my offensive line?

That's all Doug's doing. Not mine. Now that me and Khan have had a clear discussion. I am confident I can get this back up and running optimally. I have already been in talks with Wes Philips in Minnesota as well as Brian Flores and I have reached out to interview Joe Brady in Buffalo. We'll have a new hire in place before you know it."

That's probably depressingly accurate.

And Baalke sending every single BTJ reception to Shad 'See I know how to draft stars'
