I definitely understand and respect the disappointment (and well beyond) you and the overwhelming majority of other passionate Jaguars have regarding the decision Shad Khan made. I'm wondering if Khan will change his mind about the Jags GM situation if the HC search process doesn't go well?

From what I've seen with the T*tans, apparently the FO are very disappointed with the season and people are worried some changes may happen but they haven't announced anything and don't seem to be any rumours/leaks that any are happening. It seems like they are being given another year, maybe sacrifice a DC/OC but sounds like most are staying.

I think what our main frustrations are is that the fanbase has seen the same weak areas of the roster for years and it never gets addressed I'm ways that fix it. Well add a FA or draft pick but it's never a solution, always a bodge fix. It seems HC's are blamed but Baalke gets away. They have a press conference in 45 minutes with Baalke and Shad so will be interesting to hear what they say.

The last time we went HC searching only Doug seemed willing to work with Baalke and he got the boot over Baalke. I'm not sure how many top candidates put themselves in the same position, especially with so many vacancies available.

Also congratulations on the #1 seed. Lions have been a great team to watch this year. Rooting for you guys in the playoffs

Thanks, Jagfan81!

I agree that one of the Tennessee Coordinators will likely be let go even if the GM & HC remain.  That franchise got a huge break by what transpired in New England yesterday.

Even knowing that there are only 32 NFL HC jobs, the consequences of the Jaguars apparently retaining Trent Baalke probably will cost the Jaguars the opportunity to hire at least some high quality HC candidates.

I think the greatest need for the Jaguars on the field is putting together a strong running game that will put Trevor Lawrence in much more favorable situations.  Being that Trent Baalke hasn't accomplished this yet,  that by itself is a reason why I think it's a mistake for Ballke to be retained as Jags GM.

If Khan is firing just one guy in an effort to lay majority blame for the season's woes, I would imagine Trevor's opinion on the matter was asked for and probably carried some weight.

"Yeah, not sure where this notion of me retiring is coming from. I have done a great job building this roster over the past four, five years. I tired to tell Doug over the last two years that we needed better player development. You can see how well my second year players have looked from the 2024 draft class. They've had that potential all along. Just takes good coaching to get that out of them more timely.

We'll have ten draft picks in this draft class coming up in 2025 to work with. As well as free agency before that draft in March. Ideally, my next coach will have a clear vision and understanding of how I personally think and feel an NFL team should behave and operate. I don't like the zone running scheme. I believe in more pre snap motion. Look at how I evaluate and draft my defensive lineman, folks, you think I wanted these undersized, twinkle toe types along my offensive line?

That's all Doug's doing. Not mine. Now that me and Khan have had a clear discussion. I am confident I can get this back up and running optimally. I have already been in talks with Wes Philips in Minnesota as well as Brian Flores and I have reached out to interview Joe Brady in Buffalo. We'll have a new hire in place before you know it."

That's probably depressingly accurate.

And Baalke sending every single BTJ reception to Shad 'See I know how to draft stars'

It's exactly how I would frame it from his position. He'll want a younger coach here that he can really dig his claws into and control. He couldn't do that with Harbaugh. He couldn't do that with Pederson.

I am thinking we're going to get somebody like Liam Coen, Wes Philips or Joe Brady. Just makes sense. He did good in trading down and landing Brian Thomas Jr.

If you had looked at the stats, the highlights and overall body of work though on that kid? It was obvious he had WR1 potential. It's the same reason I feel we should be targeting McMillan now.

You can forget about Mason Graham. Doesn't have the arm length. Knowing Baalke? He's eyeing Will Johnson and he's eyeing Tetairoa McMillan. I bet he ships Kirk off for a 3rd day draft pick. I bet he ships Engram off for roughly the same. I am also not ruling out Etienne.

He's going to continue to build his safety net as tightly and neatly as possible and he'll eventually get lucky. If I am him though? There's a few things I would be doing now. I want the entire coaching staff obviously gone, but, I am looking at what Washington just did in one year.

MY GUT FEELING:

Perfect coaching candidate to work with the guy that nobody wants to work with? Brian Flores. He has a checkered history and reputation to shake now. Bring him in as the Head Coach as well as the defensive play caller, while doing this, you convince Wes Philips as the QB coach to come down and run the offense while looking towards him to make BTJ the next Jefferson.

I am drafting another WR early to further cover my [BLEEP] as a GM. I am full committing to fixing the offensive line in RD2 and RD3. I walk out of this draft with the ultimate "go [BLEEP] yourself" trump card entering the 2026 off season if it all goes haywire.

1. I got you the guy that can fix this defense.

2. I got you an offensive minded guy that helped fix Sam Darnold.

3. I got you another WR and three new offensive lineman to plug and play with all within the top 150 selections.

Most Jags fans-“ this is a talented roster, #1 landing spot for a HC”
Media- “this is a loaded roster, #1 landing spot for a HC”
Baalke- “check out BTJ and Cam Little, I’m a god “

If everyone is saying it’s a loaded roster, #1 HC landing spot- does that not indicate the GM is doing his job?

Now myself- I’m on the record saying this is a PISS POOR roster. I don’t believe this is a loaded roster by any means. I believe we need a full roster reconstruction. When you lose 52-6 and 47-10 to the 2 top teams in the conference’s, that should tell you it’s BAD.

The fact is Khan fell for the media and fan bait by saying this is a loaded roster and #1 HC option spot. Disgusting.

I agree with this. Especially the bolded portion. This team 8 - 3 in the 2023 regular season prior to the injuries to Lawrence and Kirk. However, when you look at the actual competitive and competent opponents they had that year? They couldn't put up much of a fight.

They lucked themselves into a lot of wins in 2022. We were sold fool's gold since then. This roster is nowhere near ready to compete the way it was billed out to be. I don't buy into it neither.

Your offensive line is below average.
Your defensive line is below average.
Your secondary is awful.
Your run game is awful.
Your QB cannot stay healthy.
Your best playmakers on offense cannot stay healthy.

The three good quality units to this team are maybe your LB room, your DE room and your ST's unit. That's about it. Everything else is lackluster or missing a piece or two in my opinion. And this with a general manager that 38 overall picks to work with and broke the bank in back-to-back years via free agency.

If all this is true, then Pedersen was doing miracles to go 9-8 last year.

Agree D6. There are plenty of different opinions as to why the run game has been so bad. For some it's Oline, some it's scheme and playcalls, some it's execution, some it's personnel and for some all of the above. The Oline has struggled in run plays and pass protection again this year. It's probably been slightly better than last year but that was a low bar.

The D has been appalling all year. Again opinions differ on the reason why it's been so bad.

For me, I've fallen in love with Ben Johnsons scheme and playcalling and he's my 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice but just can't see it happening now. It's just a sad situation that we keep repeating and fans are pretty tired of it by now.

I just don't think anyone understands why Baalke is so important to Shad.

I was listening to 1010xl this morning and they were making the argument that Doug went against the wishes of Shad Khan and allowed Press Taylor to call the plays. When Shad was asked last year on who would be calling plays, Shad responded with, "I know who I want to call plays." It was a clear reference that Shad wanted Doug to call the plays. Doug Decided to let Press do it most of the year and you can see the results were terrible. This is my first of hearing of this, has anyone else heard or read something similar?

Doug's #1 priority was getting Press a HC interview. In the process of this, he got fired.

I'm waiting to see this press conference. I'm waiting go hear how they want things to run going forwards (personnel decisions, draft pick etc) and I think that will have a big impact on how much a HC candidate will want to join. The big problem I see is there are quite a few jobs available right now and it's a bit like musical chairs. You want your 1st or 2nd choice before the music stops instead of desperately searching through what's left.

I think Baalke would be delighted with the scenario you present there and I could see a way fans can convince themselves it's not the worst move and could work. I'd personally prefer to see us go for on offensive HC to work with Trevor and get this O to be the unit it has the potential too but, with the scenario you present, if you argue the D is say 15th in the league then the record is suddenly better.

You could do worse. Smith was shortchanged in Atlanta with Ridder. He revived Russ and got some decent play out of Fields this season. In Tennessee, he proved he can build a running game.

Ten one score losses with Armstead big contract and ZERO production while bringing down the rest of the defense. Arguably worst player of the season. Wish we never signed him
