He’s on pace for about 12 sacks this year. He creates a ton of pressure when he stunts and gets over a guard and flushed the QB out of the pocket.

He’s been our best DE and is probably our best IDL at the same time.

I never see him loaf on any plays, either.  He's a good player.  Was he the #1 overall pick?  No.  But he's still someone that helps us get better.  I'd never trade him.  Give him another year and let's see if we should franchise tag him.  I just think that there is so much potential on some of our players, but they are just not reaching the best they can be.

He has gotten better and better every season so far and I have no doubt he'll only continue to get better. If we had a better interior pass rush his numbers would be even better. His 10.5 Sacks have him tied for 12th this season and he is great against the run.

Was listening to Mia earlier and she was saying she wouldn't be surprised to see Travon get a new contract this offseason. We have some cap and Baalke has been tying up the young guys on the roster. I know it's different for QB's but he is a #1 pick going into his 4th season which is when teams usually try to get new deals signed.

I guess my question is do we try and sign Travon to a new deal this offseason or wait for the 2026 offseason? He's had back to back double digit sack seasons and if we get a competent DC in he could have a big year which only pushes his price up like Josh.

I guess my question is do we try and sign Travon to a new deal this offseason or wait for the 2026 offseason? He's had back to back double digit sack seasons and if we get a competent DC in he could have a big year which only pushes his price up like Josh.

It's about knowing who the guy is inside the building and trying to gauge if he's the type to loaf once he gets the carrot.  They'll have a better idea than what little bit we get from him in interviews, but they could still get it wrong as you never really know until the money is in the bank.  If you feel strongly he's not the loafing type, then absolutely lock him up long term now.

I like Travon and believe he's still ascending into hopefully one of the better edge defenders and pass rushers in the league.  There was at least one play this season that got past him and I saw him jogging after it instead of chasing the ball carrier down and I even mentioned it in the game day thread.  I forget what game it was.  I just hope that was just one of one or one of a few plays where that might have happened versus it happening all the time and just not noticing it.  The tape doesn't lie though.  They'll know about that inside the building if it's an issue.

Your right that attitude is a big part of paying someone big money. There have been plenty of players who have lost that motivation once they've got the big contract. I'm not sure if Travon is that guy but like you say, people in the building should know that by now.

Now the big question is where does he land numbers wise. I'm not saying we should pay him like a top 5 DE but those numbers show you where the market is. So the top 5 paid DE's are

1- Bosa- $34m per year
2- Josh -$28.25m per year
3- Brian Burns- $28.2m per year
4- TJ Watt- $28m per year
5- Myles Garrett- $25m per year

You've them got guys like Sweat ($24.5m per year), Hunter ($24.5m per year), Crosby ($23.5m per year) that'll will probably be towards that high end when they sign new deals so I'd say we were looking around $26m-$29m per year for Walker. It's a lot of money, especially when you factor in Josh and Trevors contracts but they are key players for this team and are it's future right now.

My guess would be a contract similar to Trevors, keep his rookie contract for the next 2 years and have some cap relief numbers down the road if it doesn't work out.

Travon was the first overall pick. Just like Trevor it's expected he should be offered a new contract now. Whether that happens or how fast remains to be seen. Moving beyond expectations that come with draft position I think it would make sense to extend him but I suppose there will be discussions on production, bonuses etc.

I take for granted that his fifth year option is picked up first.

It would make sense, if they can agree on a number. More than likely getting the long-term deal will allow you to spread the hit over multiple years whereas the fifth year option lumps all of the salary into the current year. Doing the deal today might make this year fairly affordable and allow them to waste the cap on some new FA failure.

He should only be getting better. Only just turned 24. Really promising especially after how it was looking for him very early on.

Turning into a good player.  Though I had my hopes, still the wrong pick.  Not sure if it was discussed because I’ve been on hiatus…but there are opinions that Baalke took him because he hated Harbaugh so much.  Had never really thought about it but it does make some sense.
