Huh?

He hasn’t even had a 1st interview with the Jags yet.

It's totally plausible that our backward franchise would schedule a second interview before even conducting the first.

I could dig it. I think Saleh is a greater fit at DC than HC, hopefully Brunell works out if he does come down here. I'd hate for him to tarnish his rep like TC did with his second tour.

Brunell would be QB coach and passing game coordinator. Ben would still be the play caller.

Probably have to give him the title to make it a promotion, they can sort out job duties once the contracts are signed.

Of the 3, he is the one I have the most faith in being adaptable within games, throughout the season (say due to injury), and for playoff match ups. Plus maybe he brings some of the coaches/scouts who helped identify and develop their stout OL that has surprised everyone this year and some good though affordable skills guys.

As good as Ben Johnson and Liam Coen have been, I do worry if they can develop schemes outside the systems they have used and with different/varying roster constructions.

For example, Johnson has been great, but he can relying on a top 3 OL and rushing game all the time, or an elite contested catch guy like Amon Ra. Coen has been great, but they have relied on an elite screen game that may not be replicable with the Jags and may be difficult to replicate every year.

Exactly. Coen gets a bit of credit, they did have some challenges with injuries to key personnel this year. Johnson though has had an offensive line relatively intact now for years and if you look at the overall investments made there. They have a trio of top 10 - 20 overall draft picks between the LT, OC and RT. Then the LG and RG positions I believed were 2nd and/or 3rd RD investments.

Buffalo has a few good lineman up there. Mainly Dawkins and Torrence that I can think of. It's just the fact that he's shown the ability to change it up when/where needed and he's not afraid to actually tap into what makes Josh Allen special and that's his mobility and his toughness. He's not handicapping his QB with his decision making.

He's actually using that element to his advantage to free his running game up more and get his tight end's open deep and Shakir open underneath. Coleman had his moments as a rookie but I believe Joe Brady can cook some good [BLEEP] up here too. He'll have Brian Thomas Jr., potentially Etienne and Bigsby as a tandem, a set of TE's potentially in Engram and Strange and then we may or may not have Kirk back but I could see him using Washington anyway or Davis to the best of their abilities.

Plus you get free agency and the draft to add more pieces.

I think Joe Brady would play to Trevor's strength -- the threat of Trevor's wheels. That's why he dominated college football. Pederson was determined to keep him in the pocket; however, he was at his best when defenses feared his scrambling ability, like a young Mark Brunell with a stronger arm.

Seems like the 1010 folks are hearing the arrow is pointing towards BJ with Baalke being relegated to another position (failing upwards) or out entirely.

It would be awesome but I’ve gotta believe Saleh gets a head coaching gig somewhere. Would like to see Mark back in Jax to tutor TLaw. He could use the help.

Just don’t take Mark’s investment advice. Otherwise he’ll end up having to coach later.

Probably the 2nd best coach in Jaguar history.

It's so bizarre. As owner if you don't have a problem relegating him to a lesser role, why would you keep him in that position at all? You clearly don't think he is that great if you'd have no issue with him doing less.

I've generally given Shad the benefit of the doubt. But it just doesn't feel like he wants to put in too much effort finding a GM. Or some kind of EVP to manage the football side

Corporate America at its finest.  If a person can't do his job, simply place him in a less relevant position at the same pay.  The fact that Baalke has added a hyphenated last name is going to make it more difficult to fire him ..... Trent Geronimo-Baalke

Well the most probable scenarios are likely:
  • Shad is operating using the least path of resistance like you are stating.
  • Shad is a poor trust of character/expertise/reading people and get's hoodwinked by people like Baalke, Caldwell, Meyer, etc.; especially when he believes he has "found his guy"
  • There is way more going on beyond the scenes as to who is making decisions, the conversations about those decisions, and the timeline of those decisions.

One thing about Shad's press conferences are that, he generally appears to be trying to show confidence and stability. While that could be something you fake if the team is an afterthought for him that he doesn't care about, that scenario seems less likely. Especially given how much effort he has put in with Lamping on the business side of things.

In the last PC, he seemed to show the most amount of frustration with the questions being asked and "the attitude" that the media was showing him regarding the current announcement. That leads me to believe it is some combination of the 2nd and 3rd but it is impossible to know in what ratio.

Boselli got caught up in that too I think. Freddie lost alotta money but for a different reason. I guess you don't have to be a financial wiz to be a great football player. Wink

Speaking of Lamping, I wonder if Lamping gives him any advice on this coaching/GM question.

Why do you assume he wants a different GM? Gosh people, he's happy with the guy he has and doesn't align with your belief that Baalke isn't enough.
