I don't want another oft injured CB playing alongside our currently oft injured CB. Huh? If our GM feels this way we have the wrong guy making the pick and he doesn't know what the hell he is doing regardless of who it is lol. Luckily we are picking 5th and can get blue chip elite talent. (01-17-2025, 10:06 AM)Mikey Wrote:(01-17-2025, 09:08 AM)Caldrac Wrote: Or Graham. I don't want another oft injured CB playing alongside our currently oft injured CB. It's not a bad spot to be in. Just have to figure out what the team needs the most of at that time. A lot of my thought process will naturally change once I see who the coach is, what his staff is like and what direction they go in during free agency. At 5 though, we should realistically have a shot at a legitimate star quality player. Whether that be Carter, Hunter, McMillan, Graham or Johnson. We're guaranteed at least a shot at one of them. I won't lose too much sleep. Again, I am just very, very greedy when it comes to the offense and the idea of pairing up McMillan with Thomas Jr. for the next four years at the minimum is something I would have a hard time resisting. I think with Baalke, we're almost guaranteed he's leaning towards defense. If Hunter is off the board along with Carter. He's looking at Michigan's Johnson and Graham. Unless that rumor about him taking Walker over Hutchinson because he hates Harbaugh that much is, for whatever dumb reason, true. Then I would say he probably tries to trade down. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. This year we have the Vikings 3rd and 4th round picks. Picking 5 is actually a pretty good spot for this.
A new broom always sweeps clean.
The Pats love to trade back too. Use that extra 4th to trade up one spot and make sure we get Carter.

That way we'd still have 5 premium picks in rounds (4, 41, 72, 94 and 108). In addition to Carter, they could add new starters at guard and safety as well as better depth at cornerback, defensive tackle and receiver.
The Vikings actually gave more than I remembered to move up one spot to get JJ McCarthy last year. Even though it was for the QB premium price last year, we'd still likely have to give more than that to move up only one spot.

The Vikings were also given pick 203 in the deal. This would be comparable to the Jags giving up a late 4th and 7th rounder. I'd still do that, but I don't believe I'd give up any more than that. Third round picks in the 2020's have included Jarrian Jones and Tank Bigsby, current and future starters respectively. On the downside, they also drafted Luke Fortner and Davon Hamilton so it's a mixed bag. I'd go ahead and likely select either Graham or Johnson with the 5th pick and hope to hit in round 3.
1st pass of the year, I like the results. Not having the coach in place limits the choices to need and ability, understanding fit will start once they name the new guy. The settings for this were were all centrist on the adjustment sliders, so nothing really crazy in AI selections or the ranking board.

ND's defense got better when Morrison got hurt and they have made it all they way to the championship game without him. That on top of hip surgery, 21 feels way to high imo.

He was better than Will Johnson last year, he gets an incomplete for this one because of the injuries. 3 year starter, All-American, team captain, ball hawk, good family blood lines...there's just a lot to like about the guy. I know you'll agree that the injury only makes him more attractive to the current GM as well, lol. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

It's dead in the fact that the players that will be there are good, but they don't hit the sweet spot of filling a gaping need, either. Dream scenario is one where you have the best player available AND it's a desperate need on the roster. Most of the guys that are typically falling to us in mocks are playing positions we've recently built or have established talent-wise: - Carter: We just paid Hines-Allen a ton, and Walker has multiple double-digit sack seasons now. If you take Carter, I think you have to let Walker test FA or trade, we'd have way too much tied up on one position. - Graham: We just spent 2 picks on DT last year, a ton on AA, and Smith looked to be finding his game toward the end of the year. It would be odd to again put resources where you've already put resources. - McMillan: BTJ is killing it, and while McMillan would be nice, I don't know that adding a receiver is the key to unlocking the offensive potential. - Johnson: injury history scares me, we already deal with a lot of that on the other side with Campbell. - Starks: great player who fits need, but positional value probably doesn't fit at 5. - any of the linemen: way too early to take them at 5, you'd be hemorrhaging value if you reach for need. So yeah, if our GM isn't thinking that it's a catch-22 where we are (without some big help from picks 1-4), we're not maximizing our pick's impact based on who's likely to be there. You never have too many pass rushers and the Jaguars have failed to find a suitable addition to Hines-Allen and Walker. While I'm not 100% sold on Graham so far, he gets raving reviews from just about everybody. The inside pass rush must get better and we can't just assume that Maason Smith is the answer, although he did show much improvement once he was able to get on the field enough.(01-17-2025, 02:36 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: Huh? McMillan would be the "sexy" pick, but this team has far greater needs. Once the trenches are improved, everyone else will benefit.
All the recent mocks I have seen have Graham mocked to us. I am totally fine with it, but man this D line needs to really start taking over games with the amount invested here. #1 and #7 overall on the ends. High priced FA Armstead in the middle. Second round pick Maason Smith in the middle. Add in another DT at #5 overall..... honestly this D line would need to start being if not the best but right up there with this amount invested. I'd love to see it too!

The Jaguars have to find a way to get out of the 5 spot. Go get the player you want and need. It’s a perfect fit.
If they can land him, the entire draft is a success. You get a lockdown corner with All Pro/Pro Bowl ability, you get a sub-package offensive player that can give you 2-3 TDs per season, not only that but he can move the sticks and create/generate chunk plays on offense, and when that happens then you got BTJ running wild, also you get a return-man in certain game-time situations on kickoff return and punt return, most importantly you get the best pure overall college football player in the country and every offensive and defensive coordinator would be forced to game-plan around. He would complement Tyson Campbell on the other side - and at times complement Brian Thomas on the other side. Hunter probably has more value to the Jaguars than any other team picking in the top 10. Arguably has the most overall value as a player in the last 25 drafts because he’s right there with guys like Hines Ward, Champ Bailey, Deion Sanders, Charles Woodson, and Devin Hester. JJ Watt, Mike Vrabel. Guys that are able to dominate and create from different positions on the field. Come on Tony, slide outta 5!
Traded the 5th overall pick to the Steelers for the 21st overall pick. I then traded the 21st overall pick to the Vikings for the 24th overall pick. I landed the Steelers' 1st and 2nd RD picks in 2026 and Vikings 2nd RD pick in 2026 with those trades in RD1. I traded the 70th overall selection to the Bengals for the 81st overall selection and their 3rd RD pick in 2026.

This was fun. Bought into the Jeanty rumors. Took him 5th overall. Shipped Etienne off to the Cowboys for their pair of 5th RD picks in 2025 and a future pair of 4th and 6th RD picks in 2026. This was through NFL Draftbuzz.
