Yeah, that's about it.  Our first choice got hired by the Bears, and our second choice turned us down to stay a coordinator.  At that point, the coaching search is completely off the rails.  So finally, Khan woke up and did the right thing.  

My question for everyone who is criticizing this is, would you rather he did not fire Baalke?  I admit, he fired him a couple of weeks late, but at least he did it.

Timing matters in these situations. I hope that things can still work out, but firing Baalke yesterday is in no way equivalent to firing him a month ago and already having a new GM in place clearing out the scouting cancer and building the foundation for a winning organization with the opportunity to hire its first choice at head coach.

It’s the fact that Khan had to be smacked in the face to finally see what everyone else was seeing. Not just fans, but league insiders. Yes, he fired Baalke. Hooray! But he dragged his feet for so long that he allowed Baalke to even further injure the team. 

But as you intimate, it’s time to move on and hope for better days ahead.

But honestly, why we aren't considering Mike McCarthy is ridiculous. McCarthy is viable at this point. We've lost out on great potential. Why not take a look at a guy that knows how to win 13 games a year, and also rally a team that lost Dak mid season when all looked lost???

McCarthy needs to be interviewed. The fact that we aren't even considering him is total stupidity

I just think we need to look at McCarthy.  At this point, he's probably the most viable team builder that we could hire that is a known coach that can deal with an idiot owner...

You are right. After that press conference there was no indication Baalke was getting let go. At best it was maybe a reduced role.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if Ben Johnson also said that he wouldn't work with Baalke.  However, Khan could rationalize it as BJ just preferring the Chicago job.  With Coen, he had no other offers or even interviews.  Even Khan had to realize that he's not getting a good coach unless he fires Baalke.

I agree that they get the coach first and he has major input on the GM.

The coach could easily be selected next week.  My understanding is that the coordinators still in the post season can interview since it's a bye week.  The Jags gave first interviews to three candidates that are still in the Super Bowl hunt -- Brady, Moore and Spags.  Right now, the Jags have to wait for them.
