While waiting for this website to pull up on the screen may be painful, it's still less painful then listening to Alfie's calls to the Pete Prisco Show back in the day.

When I was living in New Mexico, there was this other message board that had a guy named BamaJag, he was insufferable.  Alfie and BamaJag would constantly fight over the most inconsequential nonsense.

That message board was my first time reading about Jaguars stuff.  I'm kinda glad that MB eventually died out.  That's when I found the original jungle.  And there was  dude named The Mad Dog that was just as bad, if not worse than BamaJag

I asked if I could re-post something here from JagMasterFlash (the admin over there) and he agreed.

JagMasterFlash:

But even now there are people over there that haven’t registered here that I would miss interacting with so I’ll never switch exclusively. Unless it does die. But the frequent crashes are going to make me need medication.

I tried stopping in there but I couldn't get logged in using my old userid so I tried registering for a new account. When I tried to activate it (via the email link) it says I'm still not activated. It could have something to do with the technical issues but I'm not sure. Maybe you can look and see next time you're there.

Anyway, I was just going to say that it's really not a competition. People have their preferences and that's how it should be. Like you said, DP has a long history and many loyal users and DFF became intended to act as kind of a supplement once I figured out it wasn't permanently down. But if people are using this forum and enjoying it then that's great. Doesn't have to be a case of one or the other for sure. Invite your friends from DP to register and take a look around and if they don't like it here, no harm done. Different strokes for different folks. Smile

By the way, they have a new color theme there which should be easy on the eyes for anyone who wants to poke around but doesn't like the color scheme. This was from a recent post. It's not the default color scheme but you can select it after signing in. Alright, I admit I've gone from neutral to actively pimping it. lol.

Once everyone migrates maybe this board will work again and the political board can stay active.

I was able to join and post from work when the forum was originally talked about, now my company is blocking it due to being a newly registered domain.  Undecided

Edit* by using the .boards.net instead of the .com I'm able to view it. lol

Edit #2* I can view the .boards site, but when I log in it redirects me to the .com site which is blocked lol guess ill just read and not post. Not like I post much here anyway

I'm not ready to jump ship at this point and time. Dedication runs through my veins. The fans that are truly complaining are also the fans that are keyboard wizards. I post during away games and off season predominately so not having access to A Message Board or SM platform doesn't bother me. I am considering signing up though BUT now is not the time. NEVERTHELESS, I would like to see the board improved even if it's by fans jumping ship and freeing up some space.

Time Will Tell.

How hard can it be to fix this thing? Are we limited by access or ability?

From what I've been reading, it's fallen under communication.. Possible that Root doesn't even know about it, not quite sure.

It is something the moderators get asked a lot. I mentioned what the situation was in an earlier post. DP is essentially Abandonware at this point.

I know a little bit about the story of this forum and it basically goes something like this (may be some slight differences). When the old Jaguars supported forum was shut down, a couple of users from that forum got together with one of the Jags IT guys to set this site up. The IT guy wasn't really all that into message forums but was willing to help set it up as long as the other two guys did most of the heavy lifting as far as running it. They were all admins in the beginning I think. Then one of the original guys kinda disappeared and the other is still around but infrequently as he moved away from the area. The original IT guy on the other hand is still around but has almost completely lost interest in the forum. Rebuilding and moving to another server is probably the "right" thing to do but it's not a trivial undertaking in my opinion, he's probably just not into enough to go through it. But that part is just my opinion.

The admin on duvalfootballfans.com seems very into what he's doing and is very responsive and the forum runs pretty well although it takes some getting used to since it's different software.

That's my 2 cents.

That's a pretty accurate assessment, though there were a couple of other Admins in the beginning that chose to move on for whatever reason.

Regarding the part in bold, I assume that you are referring to me.  Yes I did move out of Duval county, but I do check the board and read many of the posts daily (sometimes a few times per day).  I just don't post as much as I used to.

FWIW, his new account activated a couple of days ago.

(01-29-2025, 12:36 PM)Lucky2Last Wrote: How hard can it be to fix this thing? Are we limited by access or ability?

It will take some work that is not necessarily "trivial".  During one of my last communications with the owner (Superuser) he indicated that he wanted to rebuild the server(s) and possibly move to a different hosting platform.

One of my frustrations is that I no longer have the permissions/credentials to try to fix problems that have come up.  This goes for issues that both regular users and mods have had.  I am by not means a programming "genius", but I do think that I would be able to solve some of the issues encountered with the proper permissions/credentials.

I have been on this board for many years.  I go back to the days where we had "meet ups" and different events that we all got together and did.  I was fortunate enough to meet several of the regular posters in person.  I hate to see this board go away, but it's out of my hands at this point.

I'll let JMF know about his account. I think he was mainly looking to log in to post that message I quoted from though. Thanks for letting me know about it. It was you I was referencing above, I didn't want to mention your name out of turn. I think you've been great, you're in this situation the same way we all are. It would be a shame if the board went away. It has a long legacy. I've met a few of the folks in person as well and go back to usenet and the original forum days and the migration from the Jag's site (although my current alias is pretty recent). But I'm glad we've got an alternative too if or when it does give up the ghost. Wink
