Canada was suppose to do a lot of things in the rewritten NAFTA. which the last administration let them delay.

Those tariffs are the tip of the iceberg.

Allow our financial institutions to do business in Canada as their can in our country. They have repeatedly not Allowed it
Not allow others (China & Japan) to cross-dock and dump many products through their country to avoid their tariffs.
Allow quite a number of US products into their country.

They have flagrantly violated NAFTA to enrich themselves. So much so there are grounds to void it. The same applies to Mexico.

As a separate note China was suppose to do a number of things on the word of their leader. He just ignored them.

So within five days of threatening tarriffs of the 197 sovereign nations in the world more than a quarter of them are offering zero tariffs on American products in their countries now after decades of screwing us. All the while half the country is [BLEEP] and moaning about it like a bunch of babies and are fire bombing car dealerships. Why dont you people just trust the process and realize that a businessman makes a better president than any of the corrupt bastards we have had in there ever. Oh that’s right the TV told you to. Lol God people start thinking for yourselves and stop watching that [BLEEP] idiot tube

Honda considers moving some Mexico, Canada production to US due to tariffs: report
Honda is aiming to ensure 90% of US sales are with vehicles produced domestically

Honda is weighing plans to move some of its automotive production from Canada and Mexico to the U.S. as the industry grapples with President Donald Trump's latest tariffs.

The automaker's goal is to ensure 90% of U.S. sales are with vehicles produced domestically, according to a report by Japanese newspaper Nikkei.

The company is specifically looking at potentially moving production of its CR-V and Civic vehicles to the U.S. to support this goal, according to the report. Over the next couple of years, the carmaker is looking to increase U.S. production by 30% by adding more employees and shifts to its U.S. operations for its CR-V and Civic models, the report said.

China caves on 125% tariff for major US export after White House predicts Beijing can't keep up
Trump's administration says China's tariffs are 'unsustainable'

China waived a 125% tariff on ethane imports from the U.S. on Tuesday, according to a report from Reuters.

China had initially imposed the tariff earlier this month as part of its retaliation against President Donald Trump's Liberation Day tariff campaign. China is responsible for purchasing roughly half of America's ethane exports each year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Chinese companies that rely on U.S. ethane include Satellite Chemical, SP Chemicals, Sinopec, Sanjiang Fine Chemical and Wanhua Chemical Group, while the key U.S. exporters are Enterprise Products Partners and Energy Transfer.

Ethane joins a growing list of products that China has granted tariff exemptions for amid the ongoing trade war with Washington.

The goal ? Reset the United States trading framework with the entire world all at once. An impossible task? after today one down with the agreement with Britain. Britain is the 6th largest economy in the world. They are the 4th largest that we currently trade with.

How's the lawsuit coming? Turning into a law-fare warrior?

Well, I am guessing the deal with Britain is going to put a bit of pressure on the EU.... Especially after they left the EU.

Seems 10% is going to be the best tariff rate and is here to stay. Thinking it is a toll to access our market. Remarkably that is not the sticking point. A sticking point with a few countries is they are not allowed to cross-dock other countries stuff through to avoid tariffs.

The Pharma announcement today is very interesting. A couple things in there ...

The Fed will help companies go direct to consumer. I believe that is through the removal of regulations that currently make it very difficult to do. Depending on how it is done it could cut out the middlemen. (PBM's)

Also, I can see other countries paying the same price US consumers pay as opposed to how it is now, where the same drugs are multiples higher for the US as opposed to what socialized healthcare systems in other countries pay. The US consumer has in the past been subsidizing these country's drug cost. This is something he was beginning at the end of his first term. Problem is he started late, like with a few other topics and they ran the clock out on him.

I thought it was interesting that the US and China agreed to both lower their rates for the next 90 days only.
The US was charging like 140% on Chinese goods, and China was retaliating by charging 120% on our stuff.
The new lowered rates are 30% and 10%, locking in the idea that we get to charge their goods 20% more than they charge our goods.
Not sure what the point is, but having a higher number than China seems to be our country's goal.

The point is to protect the American marketplace from unreasonable competition from countries that don't play fair. The 90 days is a normal finalizing period for large contracts that basically gives immediate relief while holding a consequential line to ensure the deal goes through.

You're contradicting yourself.
If we are actually punishing China for not playing fair, there is nothing to negotiate with them.
Also if we are actually punishing China for not playing fair, we would be publicly laying out the ways we think they're being unfair, and publicly lay out a path for them to correct those things and get their rate reduced.
This is just a very expensive round of bread and circuses.

From my understanding the difference between the 30% and 10% is due to the VAT China charges, is that not correct?

I do not believe Trump is attempting to punish anyone. I believe there are mechanisms China uses (as well as other countries) that create an imbalance allowing market manipulation. He is just trying keep other countries from continuing to take advantage. Now if a country were to agree to to some stuff and just not do this I can see penalties being included. Trump did all this the way he is doing because his last term they just ran the clock out. Yea agreements got done but then not enforced by the next administration. This time he wants it done and systems in place to monitor compliance before his 4 years are up.
