We're better off without MoJo at this point, even at 1.5 MIL or whatever he signed for. He'd still have a chip on his shoulder with us had he only been paid that here. We're moving on. Let go of the past. He had no place on the rebuilding Jags.


He's in fast decline anyway.


Gerhart will be much better overall than Drew from this point forward....and I want to see another young RB brought in for the other part of the tandem, regardless of what we do with Todman.

Mojo will never have a huge rushing season again.    People said the same thing about Taylor and he did not do anything in NE.   And he is far better then mojo ever was.

Maybe it did, but through 2010 they at least had the same level QB that Taylor also played with. 

 

 

I think it speaks more to the fact that ground N pound is an antique in todays NFL. Mojo led the league in rushing and we still sucked.

That's because you can't put the team on the back of an RB and expect to have a decent season. You don't think defenses were scared of Gabbert or Henne enough to leave 6 or 7 in the box do ya? Hell no.. They stacked that box hard because they were daring them two baffoons to throw down field..

Yeah I get that part as well. I don't think defenses were scared of Garrard or Leftwich, either, though. Teams were still doing the same thing then.

We also enjoyed some very good defensive play in those years, and capable QB play.

By 27, if you have a RB on the roster who's amassed a large workload to that point, its time to start shopping him, even if theres not much sign of decline at that point, because its coming....and fast. 

 

People need to put their fan-boy allegiences aside and think about whats smartest for the franchise rather than their own selfish player likes.

OP is confused. Paying an old and busted RB and expecting him to relive past years of glory would be a gamble. Signing a young beastly RB to a cap healthy contract is called investing...

I read an article on ESPN recently that showed a graph of when NFL RB & WR "peak" and then start to decline...

 

In both cases the players' statistical production peaked at 27, - they made a point to include even Adrian Peterson as one who contributed to this trend as his stats declined at 28....

 

but the interesting thing is the RB's decline was FAST after that point, while the WR's curve of decline was much more gradual. 

 

Most RB were pretty much done by 30, with only a few having productive seasons past that...while WR's were productive into their low to mid 30's. 

 

Now, in cases like Gerhart, I do think the decline will be skewed because as mentioned, he doesn't have the wear and tear because of much fewer carries to this point. 

 

But as it was, I was right. We absolutely should have traded MoJo 2 years ago, despite the mouthbreathers objecting that idea. 

Two years ago Gene was still trying to field a successful team. Why on earth would he have traded away his best player at the time? That would have been stupid on his part. He would have gotten himself fired sooner.

 

You are kidding yourself if you think someone would give up a 3rd for a RB in his 7th season. You are not privy to the knowledge that RBs wear down. GMs know this too. That's why you never see it happening. That possibility is nothing more than pure fantasy on your part.

 

They did exactly what they should of done with him. Get their money's worth out of him then let him go.

I see your point however on a talent starved roster which relied totally on production in the run game to get anything done offensively you don't trade your one productive player


sadly cutting solid pieces when you have gaping needs at other areas is not the answer if you want the team to be consistently productive


Especially with our head coach turnover the last few years this was just an unrealistic trade


as for mjd I feel like he could have a good year next year he is still a strong between the tackles runner but he has lost a step or 2... It was definitely the right time to move on
