I think that Krav class yesterday may have been a mistake.
Never exercise people, it'll just hurt more.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:I think that Krav class yesterday may have been a mistake. Israeli self defense? Quote:Israeli self defense? Yep. And the class is packed full of my buddies that I haven't seen in a while. So when I walked in yesterday, they were essentially lining up to trade body shots with me. My hands haven't stopped shaking yet! I gripe about it some, but it's really a lot of fun. I don't know what it is, but having the opportunity to take your fist and let it off the chain on a pad is just wonderful.

I know it's origin, but some folks seem to teach it in different ways. Quote:I'm interested in taking some self defense classes. I know it's origin, but some folks seem to teach it in different ways. I think it is, even though I am not even a full year of training into it. Within five minutes of my first class, I was throwing full speed punches at a bag. You also learn all kinds of real life Self-Defense moves like how to get out of a bear hug, how to break a choke, and how to break a head lock etc. None of those moves are "nice". Krav is a very brutal style that is meant to allow the student the quickest opportunity to end a fight, whether that is by incapacitating the opponent or simply running away. But that's not to say that it is overly complicated. It's very simple and focuses on simplicity above most everything else, at least in my opinion it does. Like with most things, a lot of it is in who teaches it. My instructor told me that the he was convinced that the first person he learned under was simply trying to beat him up. It sounded like plain ol' physical abuse. He then went to another instructor and it was almost all technique based with the only contact being incidental. The point I'm getting to is if you are serious about getting into it, I'd make absolutely certain that I watched a regular class, not just go to a seminar or "demo" session. All that being said, I love every minute of it. Especially the part where I get to punch my friends in the face!

Yeah, every once in a while we'd have an Israeli come to class as a guest instructor; they didn't really smile a lot.

Quote:I think it is, even though I am not even a full year of training into it. Thanks Deacon, It absolutely sucks when you get a bad instructor with something like this, glad yours seems cool. I think there is only one place in my area that offers it, maybe I'll check it out. I'm kinda leaning towards taking some Judo classes at the moment.
Quote:I can sell you a really big stick. I need all the help I can get, I'm not nearly as fast as I used to be. Quote:Thanks Deacon, It is a bit rare to find a Krav studio. I waited for 12+ years for one to open up here. One other thing; when you go to the class, watch the other students as well. You do a lot of 'couple' work with the other students and that can get tricky. My instructor had to cancel one student's contract because he was just there to hurt people. Not trying to discourage you, but it's an important item. If you want to know more, just PM me and I can give you some other tips and/or info.

At least half the gyms here have octagons and unfortunately it seems we have a lot of those "there to hurt people" guys. Definitely something to watch out for. Quote: So, with all this face punching going on and stuff....do people leave here on a routine basis all bloodied up and bruised?? Quote:So, with all this face punching going on and stuff....do people leave here on a routine basis all bloodied up and bruised?? I've left class with a bloody nose before when another student didn't pull his punch back fast enough. And I gave up trying to count bruises that I would get after every class. It's a physical sport that doesn't shy away from contact; if that's not your thing then Krav may not work for you.

Yeah, and a lot of those guys don't take very well to getting hit. It's actually kind of funny when they walk into a class, you can see them coming from a mile away due to there being flames, skulls, or flaming skulls on their clothes. It's like they are trying to be a walking stereotype.
