I wouldn't mind Matthews and even mocked him to us in quite a few of my mocks.


I could definitely see a scenario where we draft him and if Teddy or Manziel fall out of the top ten then us trading back into the first to take a QB.


Joeckel, Matthews, and Manziel has a nice ring to it IMO

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but it's well known that the Rams like Jake Matthews and he could be the player they are targeting.  Jacksonville could be posturing so the Rams are forced to take Matthews at #2 and letting the player Jacksonville wants fall to #3 or allowing the Jaguars to trade back instead of the Rams.

Matthews played his first three seasons at RT before going to LT his senior season (after Joeckel was drafted.)

 

....and was a very good player at that position. 

 

IMO, Joeckel isn't as comfortable playing ORT as he is OLT.

All of the rumors on Matthews and Robinson mark the first time in Caldwell's tenure that I've considered that he may be chumming the waters with trade bait.

I couldn't be upset over the Jags taking a top tier tackle at #3, but I certainly would be disappointed.

The interior will be the area of the O-line that Caldwell focuses on.  We are set at LT with Joeckel.  Pasztor  is not Pro Bowl caliber, but they are said to like him at RT. 

 

#3 will be Clowney, Mack or Watkins.

Taking Robinson would IMO be a big mistake.  The guy can't pass protect, and you don't draft a tackle that high that doesn't already have established elite pass blocking skills.

 

I know he could learn, but that's beside the point - you don't take Robinson that high because right now he's just a good run blocker.

 

I would stay away from taking a tackle in the top 10 altogether, especially in a draft that has a lot of very skilled players in other positions.

I think thats exactly how it would play out. The Jags won't take Matthews at 3 with Clowney still on the board. Now, they might trade down at that point with both available at that pick, but thats different.

About the only thing that would pee me off is if they do take an OL at #3. I may be more accepting if they did it lower in the first round, but there are too many other options at positions of need for them to be taking ANOTHER OL that high again.

If that was how it played out, I would ideally like to take him in a trade down then.  Say Oakland wanted to trade up with us to bypass Cleveland for Manziel or something but we don't have a high grade on him.  We could probably get a 3rd round pick or so and Matthews, which would be fine with me.

Y'all forgetting we already have Patrick Lewis T A&M Center on our roster so we would have 3 OL that have played together on a good SEC team for at least 3 years. Cohesiveness of the OL is important to the overall production.

I'd have no problem with drafting Matthews. 

 

Its different now, because 1st round picks don't cost nearly as much in their 1st contracts. 

 

Matthews could easily be BAP at our pick, even at 3 (should Clown be off the board)
