tinhorns like Mack more than Clowney?

Rick Smith might as well just resign if he passes on Clowney and lets him come here

I am starting to think they are going QB.....
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), I don't think the decision will be in the hands of Bill O'Brien or Rick Smith. I think the Owner is getting involved and basically told them to get him a QB. He probably doesn't care which one, but he wants one and he wants it with the first pick..... I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in more than Teddy Bridgewater for a 2nd visit.
Quote:Don't you think it's too soon with a first year coach? You always hear that many coaches' jobs are tied to the success or failure of a QB they draft, especially one taken in the first round, or gasp, the first pick. I just dunno if O'Brien is ready for his entire Texans hire to be scrutinized and based upon the very first QB he gets his very first year. The Texans roster is staffed to win right now, they just need a QB. If they wait much longer the window will close completely on Johnson, Foster, Brown, Watt, et al. I think they go QB and the guy is Bortles because he fits what O'Brien wants to do. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Quote:Seems the paper champs over there in Houston are starting to second guess themselves. Mack fits their defense better though. Trade up? We'd have to be getting one heck of a deal to do so. I agree with Bullseye's suggestion above that if they'd take a 4th rounder for us to flip picks, that would be fine. Beyond that, nope. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Beyond that, nope. I was just saying, if the tinhorns pass on Clowney and Dave & Gus truly believe Clowney is a once in a generational player, do they pull the trigger? For a 4th, it would be a no brainer IMO.

Beyond that, nope. I wouldn't want to be the GM that gave Clowney to a division rival. But apparently there is a report that we really want a pass rusher.... If they want Mack or a QB it would make sense to trade with us who want Clowney, since Mack would or a QB would definitely be there at #3 and they would get the most value for someone they were planning to pick anyway. I think it would take a 3rd round pick to move up. But for Clowney I would gladly make that trade....but that's just me.
Quote:No, we shouldn't trade up with anyone. So we're not giving up our 2nd rounder to trade up 1 spot and draft Clowney? Quote:I wouldn't want to be the GM that gave Clowney to a division rival. But apparently there is a report that we really want a pass rusher.... I'm not sure how we'd be giving Clowney to a division rival in this scenario. If Houston takes Mack as the OP indicates, we'd be trading up to #2 to get Clowney. This isn't a trade scenario involving Houston. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I agree with Bullseye's suggestion above that if they'd take a 4th rounder for us to flip picks, that would be fine. Beyond that, nope. I might be willing to part with a 3rd. I seem to remember Bradley indicating it might take a 3rd or a 4th to move up a spot. I would do that for Clowney. Now if St. Louis demanded a 2, I'd hold onto the pick and roll the dice Clowney will still be there at 3. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

This isn't a trade scenario involving Houston. I was referring to Houston trading down to get the most value for wanting to take Mack or a QB. If they traded with us its very probably MACK and all the QBs will still be there at pick #3 and they would get the guy they wanted and also picked up an extra draft pick in the process. I think it would cost us more to move up to St. Louis if Houston doesn't take him (Clowney), because of what Atlanta would offer them. Quote:I might be willing to part with a 3rd. I'd be less inclined to give up a 3rd, and completely opposed to handing them #39. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If Houston doesn't take him, Atlanta is going to offer St. Louis more than just a 2nd round pick to move up and take Clowney. We would be better off offering a 2nd round pick to move up to #1. (Though I really wouldn't want to give up more than 3rd) However, if Clowney is what they say he is ("once in 15 - 20 year player") and our team feels that way as well, then he would definitely be worth giving up picks #3 and #39 to move up to #1. Quote:If Houston doesn't take him, Atlanta is going to offer St. Louis more than just a 2nd round pick to move up and take Clowney. We're not giving a division rival our 2nd round pick. Quote:We're not giving a division rival our 2nd round pick. Atlanta's second round pick is more valuable than ours (albeit not by much). And while St. Louis moves to #3 instead of #6. A 2nd round pick alone probably wont get it done as one of the players they are targeting is just as likely to be there at #3 as they are at #6. St Louis is probably looking to take WR or OT (They probably have 4 players graded fairly equally Watkins, Evans, Robinson, and Matthews). #2 pick takes Clowney then one of those players will be there at #3 or #6..... So that is why I feel we would need to give up more than just a 2nd round pick if we tried to trade with Saint Louis. If they go by just 2nd round picks alone an argument could be made they have a better deal with Atlanta. Plus if we both offered 2nd round picks I don't think ATL would have a problem adding in a 4th round pick or a pick next year. Not to mention Fisher doesn't like us anyway (though that probably wouldn't play a part in the decision)..... Back to my point if the team is even considering possibly giving a 2nd round pick to St Louis (which as I detailed would be a harder trade to accomplish). We mind as well just give the 2nd round pick to Houston and move to the #1 pick and take Clowney if the team feels he is that type of player.

I just can't wrap my head around someone like Bottles going over Clowney in an NFL draft. Sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone or something. If you told me that last year this time, or even last December, I'd call you crazy. But alas, crazier things have happened.
I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Here you go: <p style="margin-left:40px;">"...Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, Dimitroff reiterated that he's once again open to trading up -- this time from his sixth spot ..."

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

In 2001 Atlanta traded away picks #5 and #67, as well as a 2nd round pick the following year to move up to #1 and select Michael Vick.
I wouldn't mind trading #3 and #70 as well as a 2nd round pick next year to move to #1 and select Clowney. A mock draft for that could look something like this: #1 - Jadeveon Clowney DE #39 - Weston Richburg C #105 - Murray/Mccarron/Savage/Mettenberger/etc QB #114 - Walt Aikens CB #144 - Khairi Fortt OLB #150 - Anthony Steen OG #159 - Brett Smith QB #179 - Jonathan Dowling FS #205 - David Fluellen RB #222 - Tre Burton TE |
