Quote:Yawn, I guess its the "in" thing now to say that Nirvana was overrated...

Nirvana was huge, really huge even before he off'ed himself. So to act like they are just revered because of that is a crock.

According to the sheep, maybe.

Popularity doesn't equate to being among the greatest.  Not even close.

It's true.  They'd be broken up and faded away by now, with the former bandmates (Dave Grohl) having better careers.  He was the true talent of the band.  Cobain couldn't scratch his talent.

Is that how this works?

As if I'm the only one that thinks that way per what you were responding to....

I agree that popularity doesn't equate to actual greatness....but I was responding to the assertion that Nirvana was only huge because the singer off'ed himself. Thats why I corrected with saying the truth which is they were huge even before that.

Funny you bring up Grohl.....I admit he's talented....but if there was ever an overrated dude, its his music. Other than Everlong, he hasn't made a single song that really is memorable - at least of the singles/ radio type.

That means nothing to me.

Grammys and other awards are given to crap regularly nowadays. The bar has dropped through the floor.

Everlong to me is easily the best piece of work Grohl has done. Nothing else he's made did I ever have interest in listening again past each's song's time on the radio.

Thats fine.

If you think those songs are really good, thats cool....I think they are rather disposable with nothing all that great musically/ lyrically.

Quote:Reggie

Jay-Z

Tupac

Biggie

Andre from Outkast

Jada

Kurupt

Nas

Eminem

Til I Collapse, I'm spillin these raps...

I got a list here's the order of my list that it's in.

It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me.

But in this industry I'm the cause of a lot of envy, so when I’m not put on this list that ish does not offend me.

In all honesty, Eminem will probably deserve a spot on this list when it's all said and done. The level of his lyricisim and wordplay is out of this world. Regardless of how you feel about rap, Eminem is a special talent.

Still say The Grateful Dead belong on this list. They only toured for 30+ years and every show was sold out

One reason I love threads like this is that I invariably discover a gem while researching for a post.
