Please draft Mettenburger

Quote:Eventhats a bit off. Pennington had a easily seen weak arm whereas McCarron has the arm to push the ball downfield. Also Pennington had much more touch and anticipation then Mccarron due to his lack of arm strength.

To me McCarron is like Dalton or Schaub. Especially Schaub.

McCarron's main weakness is his arm strength.

Mettenberger is the second QB you draft if you're getting 2.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Yep, McCarron is Schaub and Murray is Dalton.

Murray is Dalton at best.

Of course, those are the ceilings for both players.

I agree with this.

Which would be rough if he had a easily seen weak arm but he doesnt. Its his weakness but that doesnt mean his arm isnt actually weak just the part of his game that doesnt stand out. Its like saying he gets a B grade in everything but gets a B- in arm strength so he must have a weak arm....that doesnt make sense.

Pennington had an arm you could spot as weak from the stands you didnt need to see it on TV or have coaches evaluate it because it was on full display on ANY throw whereas McCarron only really struggles with the deep outs and digs.

As others have said McCarron is Schaub and Murray is Dalton. Those pretty much fit perfectly.

So you're expecting QB at 3 and 39 in this scenario? Or you're expecting Mett to drop like a rock and we take QB at 39 and 70?

I'm expecting Mettenberger to drop.  I don't see this team taking a QB at 3.

I think we should get one of the top 3 QBs in the 2nd or late first after a trade (TB, JFF, Bort) and then supplement that with a late round choice of one of (Mett, Bama Boy, Garapolol, Boyd, ect.)

Coming from a SEC guy Mettenberger is not what we need. We have not fixed out OL yet. He will get hammered in the pocket because he is a statue in the pocket. If our OL was in better shape maybe.

We have work to do on the OL before we have this type luxury QB. The more I think about it Manziel may be our man.I am just not sold on him size wise. One of the best college players of all time though.A fantastic leader!

If he's the 2nd QB we take, the concerns about the offensive line are irrelevant.  He'd be the developmental guy holding a clipboard.

Pretty good write up on Mettenberger by Albert Breer via NFL.com:

<p style="margin-left:40px;">"...You don't want a guy with a beard? He's not your guy. You don't want a guy that's not gonna have the cleanest haircut in the history of the game? He's probably not your guy,' Cameron explained. 'If you want a guy who's comfortable with how he's been raised -- he's from Georgia, he's tough -- and you want football leadership, you're gonna love Zach Mettenberger. Every team's different. The tough teams, the physical teams will love him. I guarantee it.'

If Gene was here he could score us Gabbert in a trade and only give up a 3rd round pick. QB problem solved.

Good write up indeed.

I have to wonder how much interest there is from the Jaguars.  He'd be a really interesting guy to bring in to compete for a spot.  It sounds like he's finally got his head on straight.  He should be able to fully recover from the ACL.  He would really make for an entertaining process watching the QB competition.

As with most things written / reported around this time of year, I wonder how much of it is Player Agent and / or College Program generated. On the surface  Mettenberger's journey is a great story but how much of that has been romanticized or 'coached' to make it seem that way?

For me, I love how Mett' progressed under Cameron. Once he got himself some quality NFL-caliber coaching he really seemed to take off. I think putting him into a competitive environment where it's obvious that players "work for their dinner" may really bring out the best in him.

I agree.  He developed quite nicely under Cameron's tutelage.  It sounds like he's a smart, competitive guy.  The off the field issues seem to be under control.  Regardless of where he winds up, it'll be interesting to watch his career trajectory.  If he winds up in the right system, he could prove to be a real steal.

It was kind of tongue in cheek either way. He's gonna be gone on day 2 (probably by 70 even) so him as a 2nd QB is just an unrealistic opinion.

I didn't realize having an opinion on such matters required someone to be realistic since none of us, including you really know what's going to happen next week.
