Johnny Manziel Is Most NFL Ready of QB Prospects, Says Dave Caldwell
|
<p style="font-family:'Mercury SSm A', 'Mercury SSm B', Georgia, serif;font-size:20px;font-style:italic;color:rgb(41,41,41);">Caldwell doesn't believe the majority of the 2014 quarterback class will be able to contribute early, but Johnny Manziel might be the exception.
Quote:Johnny Manziel played only two seasons at Texas A&M before declaring for the2014 NFL Draft, foregoing his final two seasons with the Aggies. Regardless of his relative inexperience, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell told reporters at his pre-draft press conference on Friday that Manziel is the most NFL ready of the quarterback prospects in the draft class. ![]()
I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Quote:Asked if offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch would have to change his playbook to suit Manziel’s playing style, Caldwell said: “It wouldn’t be anything where he would have to change it substantially.”

Quote:This concerns me as Dave is implying we're going to draft a RT 3rd overall. Since the RT might be the BAP in the whole draft, I have no problem with this. The booster clubs of Watkins/ Mack might take issue, though....
I feel that way about Manziel also. He has talents that the other QB's don't have that will definitely assist him right off the bat as a starter.

Makes me believe he won't draft him now. Either way it's hard to believe anything that's being said now. Someone like Glazer may come out a day or two before the draft and say something reliable, but that's about all I'd believe.
Quote:I wonder how pro Teddy crowd feels about this.... I disagree with his statement. He obviously knows way (insert 15 more ways) more than me so he's most likely correct. Not gonna be mad if we take johnny tho. I've just never been more confused on a prospect before. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Since the RT might be the BAP in the whole draft, I have no problem with this. If picking a LT solidifies the o-line outside of Center, we might be on to something. Especially if you take a WR in the second and a qb in the third. But who knows. these guys are all playing the game now

I agree his style of play would make him ready to play right away, he can run around and make plays with is legs, while still learning how to be a passer.
This is why I would like to have Manziel, while he is developing as a passer, he will still be an exciting player as a runner, instead of a boring bust like Gabbert

When we don't take Manziel next week, the comedic explosion will rival passing on Tebow.

Quote:When we don't take Manziel next week, the comedic explosion will rival passing on Tebow. No it won't. The Manziel supporters; myself included have been willing to converse about it. It's the TB group that is hard headed. I've always said that I would love TB in the later rounds. JM is a legitimate 1st round talent and Caldwell just confirmed it.
We should draft Manziel and bring Tebow in for competition. Then we can use a flier on Michael Sam. Blockbuster

Anyways, no meltdown will ever rival Tebowners' long goodbye. I'm fine with whatever happens. I haven't married myself to any of the top tier QBs. If we get one of them, great. If we don't, I won't be howling about it. The fact that JM fanboys are using a portion of a quote from Caldwell as some sort of validation is something we've become accustomed to here after seeing Tebow fans do the same thing. Caldwell was basically saying Manziel is what he is, and that you're not going to see a lot of progression from year 1 to year 2. While he's the most ready to step in now, he never said he'd be the one who wound up being the best option over the course of a career. Vince Young was a phenom when he took over as a rookie. Remember the "all he does is win" mantra? Once defenses figured out how to shut him down, he faded quickly because he wasn't a guy that was going to develop beyond what he was. I'd be careful in misinterpreting what Caldwell is saying as some sort of acknowledgment that Manziel is the guy in this draft. Especially when he's said on more than one occasion that this QB class needs time to develop. If he's saying Manziel won't change much from year 1 to year 2, he's kind of saying that won't be him developing. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
