For quite some years now folks on here have called for Sexton to be out. It happens, and now look at it. Some aren't happy unless they are complaining!!

 

As a fan who listens to every game broadcast, I actually like Sexton.  Always have.  The things that annoy some around here regarding his style are funny because if he did the exact thing they wanted, someone else would complain about that.  He knew better than most that he was never going to please everyone.

 

I listened to him in the past, usually in preseason. So I know how horrible he is. 

 

Not sure why the replays wouldn't qualify otherwise though.....thats still his crappy calls. 

 

We really don't care what you think.  As we've established elsewhere, your opinion = crap.  The subject doesn't matter.  It's crap no matter what.

 

This was long overdue, the play-by-play guy shouldn't be so depressing and uninformed about the game. IMO this will increase the fans knowledge and moral for those who listen to the games on the radio. Good move JAGS!!

 

I've never gotten the impression that he's uninformed about the game, or depressing.  I think Sexton represented the sentiment of the fans in games where things were frustrating.  I've actually asked him about this, and he said there are times when it's impossible to try to paint it in a positive light when the team is just awful.  I'm not sure what fans are expecting here.  Do they want him to be spouting happy happy joy joy stuff when the Jaguars are being pummeled in games?

There weren't.  There were a handful of fans on this board who regularly complained, but it's the same suspects who complain about everything.  If you went out and polled those fans who actually listen to the radio broadcasts, most would either support Sexton, or they'd be asking for the GATOR! announcer because that's the center of their universe.

Well, actually, Sirius has had every radio broadcast of every game for quite a few years now.  Plus, nfl.com had a package that could be purchased to hear all of the radio broadcasts.

To me, the question is, is Frangie going to give up his allegiance to the Steelers.   It's just hard for me to swallow the fact that the guy calling the Jags game is a Steeler fan.

Preseason broadcasts are the perfect venue to get a real sense for how the broadcasts go.

 

The PBP for a preseason game is about as exciting as watching paint dry, especially in the first and last preseason games of the season.

Well, with all this investment going on with the station becoming the flagship, I am sure they know about the issues you and others cite about listening range. Maybe there is something in the works to improve it.

1010XL was a toaster (low power local) in Jacksonville Beach and they petitioned the FCC to increase power 50KW, like WOKV.

The problem is that WJXL is a frequency assigned to Jacksonville Beach, FL, they were not meant to cover the JAX Metro area and they cannot interfere with other stations on or near 1010kHz.

They have a very restricted signal by there antenna pattern to protect stations to the north, west and south.

So come nighttime, they have to reduce power and even further restrict their signal pattern.

Thats is why on game day they are supplimented by 99.9 WGNE-FM, as an original FM frequency assigned to Jacksonville market they cover Duval, Nassau, Baker, Clay, St. Johns counties.

1010XL-FM is in the same restricted boat as 1010XL-AM. A Jacksonville Beach station.

 

Basically they brought a can opener to a knife fight and have to rely on their big brother's katanna.
