Start of an important weekend

#1

This is the draft that will either make or break the Caldwell regime. Not sure what to expect tonight, but I hope caldwell's 2nd draft goes better than Genius smith's. I remember having a lot of trust and hope in gene after his first draft, which I was originally high on. I have been cautiously optimistic about this year's draft.

My hope is we have a trade down and pick up a couple more picks, whether it's in the first or second. Reading the names that could be available at 8 or 9 makes it a bit more attractive in my eyes, and the Bills and Lions supposedly want to trade up for Watkins. We will see! It's a deep draft that could potentially land us 6-7 eventual starters.

Excited for tonight. Go jags!

This draft is crucial for this regime. Wouldn't be surprised to see us trade late back in the first tonight.

For the Jaguars, this draft is probably as important as the very first draft in franchise history.  I'm not ready to say it's a make-or-break for Caldwell, but this is definitely a draft where he can make significant upgrades, or it could blow up in his face.  This is a tough draft to gauge.  Lots of depth, and lots of opportunity to really accomplish fixing quite a few issues.

I hope he finds someone with a good build. That is key.

I think that the end of tomorrow night and Saturday morning are crucial. Granted, they really need to hit on their first pick but I think there's enough talent there to help them out. They need to get starters out of those Fourth and Fifth round selections, and that's not easy to do.

I hope things break right for them over the next few days.

Clearly, how the men are built will carry a lot of weight...or not, depending on who you're talking about.

I don't see how it's make-or-break for a second year staff unless they screw it up to monumental levels. There's still too many holes on this team.

Agreed.  There's a lot of talent in this draft that will run into the fourth round easily.  Caldwell is expecting to get what?  4-5 starters from this draft?  The draft is certainly deep enough to accomplish that.

Yeah, I don't think it's a make or break for Caldwell, but it is a critical draft for this team.  He has to hit on enough draft picks to assure that by year 3 of his build, the team is really turning the corner.

Scared of what we'd have to give up for that because we would have a lot of competition for those qbs that will supposedly slide (rumors).

The only reason we'd be trading back into the first is if we see a QB on the board we want, and we don't expect him to make it to 39.  That becomes a moot point if we actually pick a QB at 3.

I think that "four to five" number is correct and that's where my concern is. Getting quality starters deep into the Fourth round is pretty tough to do unless you're talking Specialists and I'm not aware of any of those in this class.

Well if they wanted to screw it up on a monumental level they can just ask me who I'd draft.

I think we should be hoping for 3 starters and 2 role playeys. Maybe depth on either line or at LB with potential to start down the road or rotational pass rushers.

I could see 3 instant starters and a couple that will eventually start down the road, once developed. The depth of the RB and WR class might allow us to pick up a starter in the 4th round. If we can get a trade down, it might increase the instant starter number to 5-6

They'll be given every opportunity to earn that trust.
