Bortles is the pick! How you feeling.

Quote:If they are sold on Bortles that is fine but with the Buffalo trade its basically a top 10 pick next year....Is Bortles better than Mariota//Hundley?My response to that would be Bridgewater. How many on this board were crying for the Jags to tank for Teddy, because Teddy was head and shoulders above every other QB this side of Andrew Luck over the last ten years, then Teddy tanked himself and his best-case is late first. Don't draft for next year. All it takes is one arrest, one suspension, one injury, even a few bad games, and suddenly that "trade so we can draft Mariota" strategy doesn't look so bright anymore. At QB moreso than any other position, if there's a guy that you feel strongly about, you take him. Period. Don't pass on a guy you love because you think you're going to love a couple other guys next year. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I'm fine with the pick if Caldwell thinks he is a franchise guy.
I like that we went QB. I will refrain from comment regarding the actual player because I don't watch college football enough to know either way.

There are two options on Bridgewater. One, he did tank based upon showing up at the combine looking like a twig then had a terrible pro day.
Two, he didn't tank at all, but the media that had been pimping him as a first overall pick slowly caught on after his twig incident and pro day that they had been horribly over-valuing him, and they adjusted their grade downward. Clearly, it's not just "nitpicking" if a guy who was the top pick in the draft three months ago is now left with only a couple of prayers of coming off the board in round one.

You're Welcome.
I feel pretty darn good about this.
Jax is due for some solid QB play and this guy could be it.

If you'd been around, oh, I don't know, ten days ago, you might have seen some of that.
Feeling better about the pick. Bortles has some pressure on him now as the 3rd pick. He'll be heavily scrutinized for it with every mistake he makes being magnified. That's expected, but I hope he can handle it.
There's a strong feeling that somehow the Jaguars' franchise has once again fallen victim to the passive aggressive behavior of the Gator-infested media.
In essence, Bortles is revenge for not moving on Tebow. The circle of Gene Frenette and his cronies just got richer thanks to all of the PR consulting they did to make Bortles big. In fact, Khan just paid the other Team Gene Regime a big fat sum to scratch his itching ears. No amount of PR will change what's going to happen. Bortles is not at all elite NFL-caliber quarterback talent. At best, he can be described as a quarterback panic pick. Nobody was expected to react the way the Jaguars did. All of the other teams made the right choice in selecting the elite talent atop the draft. The Bortles pick sticks out like a sore thumb. His grade is comical to look at in comparison to what the rest of the NFL did in the top five picks. Only a warped franchise would have Bortles at the top of their draft board. He sucks. He will suck. He will retire still sucking. The fact that David Caldwell turned his nose up at Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews simply means Bortles will have a much shorter career. So will Bradley and Caldwell. Charlie Casserly was grim-faced as he discussed the selection earlier tonight. To relay his words in paraphrase, Bortles was NOT the third best player in this draft. This means he is a developmental pick. Chad Henne is the Jaguars' starting quarterback. Bradley is in his second year and he doesn't have a quarterback. So he took the one highest ranked. There are any number of videos at the draftbreakdown.com site for Bortles. Bortles should be easy enough for anybody here to poke holes in. A short capsule of him: He lacks arm strength to complete deep throws with NFL accuracy. He does not line up over the center enough to exhibit proven ability on the collegiate level. This automatically down-grades Bortles at least out of the top ten prospects. He is strictly a shot-gun passer, not a true drop-back passer. He walks back to the shot-gun from over center a lot prior to the snap, suggesting he has major flaws in his drop-back foot work. He struggles when he isn't able to stare down receivers. This bad habit ordinarily is death sentence in the NFL for any prospect. Bortles hints he will be a pick-six machine. He also struggles to complete passes on the run and this lack of ability to extend plays *successfully* will draw immediate comparisons to Blaine Gabbert. Bortles' pro career will be short. He will start right away as the Jaguars quarterback developmental system does not exist. Ask Ricky Stanzi or Blaine Gabbert how that works. Fans and the media will skip right past Stanzi and demand Bortles instead of Henne early next year. Teams will simply attack his grossly repetitive (habitual to the point of sickening) short passes and hit him on the back end with cloaked safeties. Then when he gets frustrated enough to try and throw deep balls and/or types of passes that demand elite arm strength, Bortles becomes largely ineffectual. We already know that Bortles is going to wash out. He's a college football hero trained to win football games for UCF. He lacks NFL qualities, including ideal diagnostic capabilities. The comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger are insulting to read and hear. Utter nonsense. Blake Bortles in Gino Torretta 2.0 You can read about him here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gino_Torretta

Bortles shouldn't start before Blackmon returns.

Quote:It would seem he's coming into the right situation, too.Fifty sacks in 2012. Fifty sacks in 2013. Jake Matthews is a dirty bird, and the Falcons have Caldwell to thank for that. Why wouldn't Caldwell want superior pass protection from an elite offensive tackle for his OWN quarterback? A man can't serve two masters, they say. In two years, all he's got is Luke Joeckel, Biff Bortles and a bunch of jack-rabbits. I guess he'll pull a Gene Smith and sign a guy like Cecil Shorts III to a ridiculous contract as a way of saying thanks for all the off-season workouts he did with Bortles?

Bitonio, Martin, S-Filo, and several others. Crash test dummy Henne is the starter, so Bortles isn't likely to see time this year, which is plenty of time for the new line to solidify.
