I'm not sure if you're being straight up or tongue in cheek.  I'd be surprised if he's Andrew Luck.  But the more I read and watch, I'm becoming convinced this was a very good pick.

 

Well, partly it's that I don't agree Andrew Luck is as great as he's typically hyped to be.  But, yes based on what you see him do he has the potential to be as effective.  Strong arm, athletic, very accurate (68% completion rate), played in a pro style offense.  He is a number 3 pick so he *better* at least be in that conversation eventually.

UCF plays the same spread crap that Gabbert played in. Given the system he played in 68% completion isn't particularly impressive.

You need to do some more research, O'Leary plays a pro-style scheme at UCF which includes the QB playing under center and a vertical passing attack.  It's not a spread offense.

Admittedly all I have to go on are the highlights I watched and the reports on him I read, but in the highlights he was constantly in the shotgun and had a lot of spread style design runs. Maybe that wasn't representative of what they were doing, but okay.

I don't get the fast rising thing. All along the top 3 QBs in this draft has been Bortles, Bridgewater, or Manziel. Bridgewater and Manziel both have serious questions about them. Bortles is the closest thing to a can't miss as was in this draft. He's Andrew Luck, although I understand why people aren't buying it yet.

 

After watching every video on the internet of him last night, I have to agree. They're really similar -- same build, athleticism, arm strength and even pocket movement. Bortles is just much much less refined in his mechanics and throwing motion.

Bortles is not luck.  Just for the basics, one was a a 4 year player in the pac 12, while the other is a 3 year player in the C USA / AAC.  They are both white and big.  Hopefully bortles doesn't have the same arm limitations as Luck/Eli Manning.

My take is the offense that Bortles came from is a pro style offense with the option that like to take a couple shots down field each quarter to keep the defense honest.  Stable of comlpimentary backs as well.

No kidding? I said they have similar physical attributes, not that they were twinsies or that Bortles is as good of a prospect. I actually went out of my way to say Bortles is much less polished.

Yeah, I was surprised at all the comparisons to Roethlisberger. I think Bortles is way more athletic and has great accuracy. I'd say that Bortles can be Luck or better although it will take him a little longer to get there.

I think he can be compared to quite a few guys, including Luck, Roethlisberger, and Matt Ryan.  He's got a little bit of each in him.  If we get anything close to that from him on the field, the Jaguars woes at QB are going to be a thing of the past.  Let's hope that's the case.

I agree.  He will have some work to do for sure, but he definitely seems to have all the right attributes you'd want including the work ethic and the desire to improve himself.
