Its Official, the Jags draft is done. Give our Front Office a hand! Best Jags draft (at this point) in team history
|
Its a refreshing change.
I bet if we do lose a game, with this group it won't be for lack of trying and it won't be by 20+ points. everywhere I look I see players that are tough, want to compete and smart. I'm still excited and not just over one pick but the whole dang class. How often has that ever happened? :woot:
Because Jaguars is our mantra

Quote:Its a refreshing change. Thats what I love about it - its pretty much the entire draft class that was good. Usually we have several picks that are what seem to be throw aways.....but this year, not really any of that. The closest one would be the 6th rounder, but even that one has a chance to start.
Great draft yes, best draft ever now.... remember Fred Taylor and Double D....that was IMO the best draft ever.
Lets all be honest. We all love the draft and look forward to adding new talent. Gene Smith drafts were punches in the gut. I follow the draft closely and I had no idea who Larry Hart, Rod Isaac or Scotty McGee were. And all his classes ended up complete duds for this franchise. The team was raked over the coals each year. It was awful.
Now, Diamond Dave and the Gus Bus are working their magic. Players want to be here. We are getting near universal praise. The arrow is pointing straight up.

But those 2 were pretty much it from that draft. As I said before, Coughlin was great in finding the superstar at the top of a draft, but his drafts were essentially "top heavy" as they rarely produced much after the 1st round. This draft has the potential to field impact players from top to bottom. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I was hoping they'd grab Pierre Desir, but well, someone else grab his tail before they did. O well, there are more good gems that didn't drafted out there. Look at Kurt Warner.

Yeah, the Browns snagged Desir which was interesting, given they already have Haden, and took Gilbert high.... Perhaps they plan on moving Desir to FS? I've gotta say that this is one draft that I am very excited about. Patience at this point is key. While I don't expect us to go out and "light it up" this coming season, I do expect to see a dramatic improvement. By the end of next season the Jaguars should be "relevant" in the Pro Football fan world. If the players in this draft class pan out and develop like I hope they do, a lot of teams are going to be nervous about seeing the Jaguars on their schedule in 2015.
For the first time in a long time I think that we are seeing something special develop right before our very eyes. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
I love this draft but 1995 was the best. If only for tony, Stewart, and rob Johnson who turned into the Fred Taylor pick!

I can only imagine what Caldwell might have been able to do with 2 picks in every round. :woot: Quote:Cordell Taylor :pinch: Don't remind me. That was one draft I was screaming for the team to trade up in the second round. I wanted Samari Rolle...but there were so many CBs in the second round that year and we missed out on them. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Here's something interesting to think about.
Since the departure of Jimmy Smith, Cecil Shorts is the only WR to come close to reaching 1000 yards in a season. Our offense has been pretty 'meh' for the most part since Fred Taylor's final year here. Aside from Justin Blackmon, since 2005 and Matt "Coca'Cola" Jones the team has not spent a single 1st or 2nd rounder on a WR. The most was a 3rd in 2007 -- and that's a lone instance itself. This year, we drafted not one, but two WR's in the second round. That is a major talent infusion that this team has not seen since the Coughlin era. Even if it doesn't pan out (I think it will) -- you can see Caldwell's plan to infuse this team with the offensive talent that it needs to look like an NFL Offense again. It's something this team has long needed. Something more than signing Laurent Robinson or Jerry Porter.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:Don't remind me. That was one draft I was screaming for the team to trade up in the second round. I wanted Samari Rolle...but there were so many CBs in the second round that year and we missed out on them. That and Soward were TC's biggest headscratchers.
Quote:Great draft yes, best draft ever now.... remember Fred Taylor and Double D....that was IMO the best draft ever. It's debatable. Keep in mind that we had two first round picks (#9 and #25). It's easier to find two impact players when you have two first rounders with one of them being a top 10 pick. Most of the rest of the draft wasn't great, although it did include John Wade (a long time starter at center) in the 5th round. However, we mostly missed on our other picks. Harry Deligianis is our worst 4th rounder ever. He didn't even make the first round of cuts with the Jaguars and never got picked up elsewhere -- even after mid-season injuries occurred. Cordell Taylor also gave us the least production of any 2nd rounder, although it's unclear whether that was due to injury. We kept Jonathan Quinn as a backup even though he was terrible. Despite extra picks in the fourth, sixth, and seventh rounds, we got virtually no depth. Best draft is tough for a number of reasons. First, most drafts are a mix of good and bad. Second, it depends upon the criteria. If you include the impact of trades, I think a great case can be made for the 1995 draft. Keep in mind that it was drafting Rob Johnson in 4th round that allowed the trade for the #9 overall pick in 1998 that got us Fred Taylor. Coughlin also traded a 3rd and a 5th rounder for Mark Brunell. We also selected Boselli with the first round pick. As a result, all three Pride of the Jaguars players (Boselli, Taylor, and Brunell) were all ultimately acquired as a result of Coughlin use of his 1995 draft picks. We also had four other picks who were full time starters (James Stewart, Brian DeMarco, Bryan Schwartz and Chris Hudson), although they didn't last long. (To be fair, TMD makes a good point too in that we had two picks in each round. That is definitely an incredible help.) Some would argue for 1996 too. We had three pro-bowlers -- Hardy, Brackens, and Barlow (as a returner). We also got a decent starting cornerback in Beasley. Cheever also appeared to be on his way to being an excellent center, although his career ended early due to injury before ever knowing for sure. The negative is that we also had two picks in each round (outside of the first) so you should have high expectations. We also completely missed with all of our picks in the second half of the draft. It was a complete failure to get depth. I was just looking through our other drafts. Considering what we had to work with, 2006 actually wasn't bad. We only had six picks and that included two seventh rounders. We had no 4th or 6th rounders. We were also picking 28th in each round. Despite that, we got two pro-bowlers (Marcedes Lewis and MJD). Ingram was also a four year starter for us.
Quote:Don't remind me. That was one draft I was screaming for the team to trade up in the second round. I wanted Samari Rolle...but there were so many CBs in the second round that year and we missed out on them. I remember feeling similar. Rolle was going to be a good one and people knew it. Quote: To me, this is the most significant part of Caldwell's performance to date; he has a plan and you can watch him work it and see his vision come to physical reality. The specifics are there to see so I won't rehash them overmuch, but from the outside we can see what Caldwell wants his team to be and you get the feeling that it's not an archaic, this-is-the-way-we've-always-done-it-in-the-past approach. I am very optimistic about this team's future.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
I don't ever remember watching the highlight videos for our draft picks and feeling so fired up about them. These guys are playmakers. I was so excited about this draft that I almost bought one of those awful arena league jerseys.

They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
