That's where you're wrong. Sam might not have been drafted had he stayed in the closet. As it stands now, he's saying he would have been taken higher had he been straight. Personnel guys refute that, but it's irrelevant. The insinuation that he was held back because of his sexuality is nothing more than a set up for a future discrimination case, IMO.


This is why I suggested that if ever there was a great time for a closeted player to come out, it's now. It would steal his thunder, and the world would quickly discover that most people really don't care about sexual preference if you know how to play the game.

While I don't blame him for the media circus, I do call bullcaca about him not wanting it either. He could easily put a stop to all the publicity if he didn't want it to be a distraction. He has chosen not to do so.

I don't know how a man who was SEC Defensive Player of the Year cannot make a roster. He was the best player on defense in the best conference in the country, how can he not make a contribution on the field in some capacity?

I was just about to post the same exact thing. Winning SEC Defensive player of the year is no small feat, with it being the best Conference in the country. He doubled his sack total from 6 or 7 to double digits.

 

With that said the games he made the most damage in ie UF, USC with his aggressive play.

 

He takes too wide of angles when it comes to pressure, which in turn is a result from his lack of speed and size. He cant be a hybrid and would be better suited 4-3 guy, that would help mask his lack of range.

One way he could have decreased the publicity substantially was not to have a camera at his home during the draft and not have any media members present.  The media as expected has exploited him to the nth degree but he could have told the media I'm just focusing on football and I want my privacy.

How a lot of this reads is: He should have stayed in the closet because now he's set himself up for success just because he is gay?
