Nfl Officiating

Officiating league wide is a joke. Such parity based on who you are; officials should lose their game check when they make a bad call.

Bad calls happen at every game. If they all lost game checks for making bad calls, none of them would get paid.

For the speed of the game, these guys do a pretty darn good job. Quote:Officiating league wide is a joke. No better than the replacements last year. Certain crews worse than others. There are 5-8 plays minimum a week that have huge impacts on the game and are blown. Easy calls that are either blown, or not made. It's ridiculous.

Right, lets bring the replacements back...they were just as good. You really make no sense with this arguement. You will never concede that the normal refs are better. Are they perfect, no...but at least they have sense. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I think the opposite. For the speed of the game, these guys do a pretty darn good job.How it is "a pretty darn good job" when they make up penalties just to negate big plays by the worst team in the NFL? I will never forgive John Parry for his personal foul call last week. Even though it is a fast game and 22 players are on the field, officials should know what they are looking at. Quote:How it is "a pretty darn good job" when they make up penalties just to negate big plays by the worst team in the NFL? I will never Never? Never ever?!?! Not even if he publicly apologizes to you personally for making whatever mistake it was? Never is an awfully long time.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:Never? Never ever?!?!Of course he will never apologize for it publicly. The only referee who ever publicly admitted making a mistake was Ed Hochuli, one of my favorites. Maybe if you wrote him a letter telling him how awful you think he is, he will respond to you with an apology, Then, you don't have to go around with all of that hate and noforgivingness in your heart!

Quote:You can make this arguement every year. The NFL refs are the best in any of the major sports and its not even close. Do you know that for a fact? Are you sure that is true for all 17 officiating crews?
I love when people make a statement and end it with "and it's not even close". Like you know 100% for sure that every other sports officiating is 10x worse or something first hand. Nobody has enough time in the world to pay attention to the officiating of every game of every sport. You can have a small sample size sure, but that doesn't make it fact.
That being said, the NFL's officiating has been getting worse and worse each year, that's about as close to fact as you can get.

If the argument came down to excessive holding penalties or something insignificant, then I'd be fine with the performance of the referees this year. The problem is that they're making foolish calls dozens of times through every game, every week. Has anyone been able to pinpoint the rule that justified the Cyprien fumble recovery / turnover? Those are the kind of calls that shouldn't happen in the NFL.

What rule are you complaining about?
I had a problem with marks penalty the problem being it is subjective
I can see why jags fans would feel hard done by we have so few big plays and they almost always seem to be negated,by penalties In my alcohol induced state last Sunday I was furious with the calls made last week but on reflection marks should have got out of their before celebrating I like seeing emotion from our players but they need to ensure they give no room for error as it is happening too often to just be bad officiating It may not be costing us games but is is making games that should be closer into blowouts by allowing offenses to sustain drives Added if will rackley gets another face mask penalty I hope joeckel beats him with his crutch
I did not see the Marks penalty because CBS stupidly showed Miami instead of us in Gainesville, but from what people were saying on the official game day thread, it must have been a horrible call.

What I find funny is that Marks was penalized for "taunting" and it gave Satan Manning a first down; but Golden Taint taunts Janoris Jenkins and the Rams defense before he scores a TD and the play stands. Complete double standard in my book.

Complete double standard in my book. This is a misunderstanding of the rule. Taunting is assessed after the result of the play. On a scoring play, this means the score will stand, and the penalty is assessed on the kickoff. You can argue if it should have been called or not, but the assessments you describe in your post are by the books and do not resemble a double standard. That said, the competition committee is looking in to the taunting rule for next year. The idea is to make it a spot foul, meaning the markoff would start from the spot of the taunt. If in application today, such a rule adjustment would have negated Golden Tate's touchdown.

I don't like the whole "automatic first down". Offenses are given enough already and a face mask on 3rd and 40 should make it a 15 yard penalty with a replay of the down (3rd and 25). Not to give the offense a free set of downs. |
