QB Competition: Blowing Smoke
|
Quote:Agreed completely on this point with you and FBT, though it begs the question if the Jaguars win 5 this season, will that be considered a disappointment, even though it represents improvement from last year's record? I'm with you on Shorts. I don't think his position is in jeopardy. When the General Manager specifically mentions that they are already reaching out to his agent to get a contract extension done, that tells me all I need to know. With the uncertainty surrounding Blackmon and his possible return, it makes no sense to think Shorts is going anywhere. There's this "trade lust" on this board where any player who might derive even the slightest bit of value must be traded. In this case, Shorts' value is greater to remain on the roster than it is to get some 3rd day draft pick as far as I"m concerned. Everyone is smarter than the GM who is making the decisions. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:I won't be disappointed if they only win 6 as long as the progress continues to be clear. I think winning 8 is not outside of the realm of possibility if things go well. I'm sure the early part of season is going to be a downer, we have some rough games early on and the OL will take a while to gel. I expect them to perform much better later in the season as some of the rookies start to make contributions. But even if they do only win 6, it should be an exciting season to watch the foundation being put into place. Oh, I'm fully expecting the early part of the season to be a bit rough. Maybe even some blowout losses akin to last year.....but as the season goes on, I expect things to start to gel and wins to begin happening at a more regular pace. In the end, I only expect maybe 6 or 7 wins,....maybe even outliers of 5 or 8, pending on if the breaks go against or for us, but as said, as long as when that season is over, its pretty clear that having a winning season in 2015 is not only possible, but expected, per everything starting to come together, then I'll be fine with it. I don't think it will be nearly as bad as last year. I think the improvements made already on the defense will assure we're not getting blown out this year. The most important piece of the equation is getting the offensive line squared away. Once they're in a good place, then we can look at where the QB situation is. If Bortles is ready, and Henne is playing like he normally does, then you can start talking about making a switch. The primary goal this year is to continue to improve, and to become cohesive on both sides of the ball. I fully expect to see that happen, and the end result will be something along the lines of 6-7 wins. That's a victory in my book. Never argue with idiots. Throwing Bortles in there to "learn" is akin to throwing a kid on a bicycle without training wheels and expecting him to learn. After multiple bruised foreheads, sprained wrists, and skinned knees he's going to develop uneasiness. Not want you want.

Hopefully the fans with a hat rack topping their upper torso might see this and take it to heart...nah, prob not Quote:Throwing Bortles in there to "learn" is akin to throwing a kid on a bicycle without training wheels and expecting him to learn. Only, he has been playing football for a good chunk of his life, and won a bcs bowl game last year in front of a national audience... But yeah, those two things are basically the same Quote:Throwing Bortles in there to "learn" is akin to throwing a kid on a bicycle without training wheels and expecting him to learn. No amount of on the job training, or college education will fully prepare you for every possible scenario. He will never be 100% ready. And for those who suggest there's no sense of urgency? Since when did winning not become the primary goal? Temper your expectations this year, but dont think for a second that chad will start the entire season just because "that's the plan" as of now Quote:Yeah, it's a great analogy.... The NFL is not like high school, pop warner, or college! You say winning is important now? At what cost? This team wins 8 games tops, regardless who's behind center, and I for one dont want the prize rookie damaged because he was thrown out there too early. Please throw one of your mature comebacks at me before you have to go to bed, its a school night! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! If you watch the games, there's no comparison. I think it's safe to say caldwell and gus have more conviction with bortles than gene did with blaine. Blaine seemed like a forced pick. Didnt even meet with him before the draft. Quote:Not sure why im trying again, as youve proven to have your head so far up--------. So knowing how to ride a bike, means a motorcycle as well? I just think that at this point, we've already established that there's no sure fire way to address this situation. Both ways can yield positive results with time. My point is that as a fan, knowing where he was drafted, i would expect him to get the nod sooner rather than later. Caldwell and bradley are smartly lowering expectations of that publicly, probably more to take the pressure off of him than anyone else. Given that there aren't nearly as many glaring holes in his game as some guys have, I would doubt that they'll bench him the entire year, unless chad somehow lights it up. Plans CAN, and often do change.

There are some decent arguments that support sitting Bortles, but saving him from being "damaged" should not be one of them.

Quote:response in redlast I heard they were about to resign Shorts so I doubt he gets cut this season if that's the case.

Yes other ways have been successful for different situations but in Blake's case this seem to be the best way.

Quote:whats "develope"? A typo, like starting a sentence with a lower case letter. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.
