We'll see.  I don't get the sense they plan to deviate from their plan, which is to play him when they deem him ready.  Not a moment sooner.  They've made that pretty clear any time they're asked, but some of you apparently have your heads buried somewhere that sound doesn't dare travel.  Neither does logic.

 

They're not answering the questions to alleviate pressure for any player.  Not when the head coach uses the word competition in just about every sentence.  Oddly, the one position where he isn't preaching that?  Yeah, that's right.  QB. 

 

Bortles isn't starting week 1.  You can book that now.

Ok, he needs time.  I never said he didn't, however, this is a sport and players compete to play.  You are fooling yourself if you think Bortles and Henne wont do everything they can to play.

This isn't something to grant Bortles the starting gig immediately just because he might immediately seem better than Henne in camp/ PS games. Theres a lot that has to go into getting Bortles ready for the full time starting gig. 

 

He's a junior eligible player so, this year will be spent as a red shirt year. Junior eligible QB rushed into immediate starting spots have generally had less than favorable results. The Jags are seemingly handling this situation the correct way. As long as they don't give in to impatient cLoWnS who are trying to rush the process.

I still has a sadz about Weaver giving into public sentiment from the vocal minority and firing Coughlin. 

 

All that needed to be done was fire Coughlin "the GM", and have them hire a GM that could work with Coughlin and we'd have been much better from 2003 onward.

 Starting NFL QBs have to put in 60-70 hours a week gameplanning and preparing for every week's opponent.   They'e not worried about footwork.   They have 52 teammates who are solely focused on winning this week's game, so that should be their sole focus.    Not whether they are setting up their base too wide on a 5 step drop.

Yep, and this isn't a case where, "oh once Bortles gets the fundamentals right a few times" then he's okay. No. Thats something that will demand repetition and more repetition until it becomes muscle memory/ second nature.

You can train someone to cook fries at McDonald's in 4 months, but grownups with hard grown up jobs need more than 4 months to properly learn how to do their jobs.    Being an NFL QB is an exceptionally hard job.    That's why there's only about ~10-15 good ones walking the face of the earth at any particular time. 

 

I have no doubt that idiot fans will want Bortles out there as soon as possible, and proclaim he's ready after he's completed his first preseason pass.  That's what makes them idiot fans.
