Jaguars will NOT release Justin Blackmon upon reinstatement

Quote:Agreed. Cut him loose. Have we really gotten to a point where there is a LARGE section of this fanbase where we are paranoid and insecure about releasing a talented WR who is on his last strike because of his substance abuse problems?
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.
Quote:Cut him loose. What's the rush? And what does it matter what the fan base thinks? Blackmon isn't costing the team a dime in salary, or a roster spot. At this point, he's just out there. I don't see a sense of urgency to do anything now. He's not a distraction. He's not causing problems. Why the hurry? Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:What's the rush? And what does it matter what the fan base thinks? There is no rush, but cutting him and moving on sends a message to the team that they are serious about fostering a positive winning culture. There is no benefit to keeping Blackmon on the team other than hanging on to a stale prayer he comes back to the team and is committed. Is Shorts was in the same position, do you think the team would take a similar stance? My belief is no because talent wise, Blackmon is better, which goes to the point that you want to eliminate any perception of creating favoritism.

There is no benefit to keeping Blackmon on the team other than hanging on to a stale prayer he comes back to the team and is committed. But there is favoratism..... Go back to the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys days...guys with the talent of Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith amongst others, simply DID get the advantage of favoratism by the coaches. Jimmy himself admitted this. Its just the way it is. They went on to win back to back superbowls. The perception of "favoratism" didn't hurt that locker room. You're never going to have a "complete equal" locker room in that realm. Blackmon's talent will buy him more chances than others, and thats just the way it is. Quote:But there is favoratism..... Last time I check Mike stopped doing enough coke not to put himself in jeopardy of facing a lifetime banishment from the league.

How does cutting one of the best players on your roster who is dealing with a medical issue going to send a message to the team about fostering a winning culture? If he does come back, the team is better for it. He's not an attitude problem. When he's with the team, he's not an issue. He has an addiction. I think if you cut him you're sending the exact opposite message to the team. Of course there's favoritism. Do you think this would possibly be a shock for guys who are holding on to a roster spot because of their abilities on special teams? Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Last time I check Mike stopped doing enough coke not to put himself in jeopardy of facing a lifetime banishment from the league. I read a lot of stories anout the accounts that went on down in Dallas during Jimmy's superbowl run.... It was FAR from "squeaky clean". Lots of stuff was kept under wraps. They had a special place (near Valley Ranch?) designated where certain team members could go and use drugs/ get hookers/ you name it....and as long as they didn't get caught (which they wouldn't if they used this place to do their stuff) , everything was fine. The cops wouldn't bother them or anything. I'm guessing "Jerruh" took care of that....if ya know what I mean.... Lets face it, as much as they try to portray a positive image, the NFL ain't choirboys. This isn't your church league here.

If it involves the jags cutting him then so be it. What would you like to hear? Blackmon out of the league (or plays a few years with another team) while being a productive person to society. or... Justin Blackmon of the Jacksonville Jaguars is involved in a DUI where fatalities are involved?

I am not even debating the perception of NFL players. I am stating Irvin was smart enough to put down the coke (which by that time he had about 7-8 years in the league) when he saw he could be headed down a lifetime ban from the league. Blackmon is only going into his 3 season.

The team has already said they're not cutting him, so I think it's okay to move on from this point. The expectation is that if he is able to get back on the field, that it will be as a Jaguar. If the team feels that he cannot maintain his sobriety, they're not going to hang on to him at that point. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

You're acting like that bad stuff is a guarantee to happen if we continue to keep him. I'd rather see him simply clean up his act and resume a long, successful playing career here. He doesn't HAVE to go elsewhere for that to happen.... AAAAND, he could go elsewhere, and also still have bad stuff happen,.... We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Well, he is on his last strike ya know. Yes I do know that. The Jags have covered themselves personnel-wise. Theres zero harm in retaining him as a luxury at this point.
Quote:Yes I do know that. Ah so you're fine with him possibly creating the "Tebow effect", ya know like when the team creates a whole new offense that dosent involve Blackmon, then all of a sudden, he returns and you have to change or re implement the offense all over again?

Quote:I'm pretty sure they're not building an entire offense around Blackmon. So what's the point in not creating an offense that dosent involve him, say his situation is a "tragedy", yet still keep him on the team even though he isnt costing them money, or a roster spot. What's the point?

What's the point? While theres still a chance that he makes it back, you keep him. No harm is done. The upside is too great to just cut loose. The Jags would be fools to just cut him loose before anything such as a lifetime NFL ban. Why give an apponent the opportunity to get a player with that level of upside for free? |
