Quote:Exactly like he did with those players FBT, except those are all rookiea written off before one down. Doss is a 3 year veteran. The idea I want him to fail is preposterous. I'd love him to succeed but I'm a realist and knowledgeable in the area of tandon doss' nfl ability. It's highly unlikely and I'd put my money on Ace before doss any day.

I don't discount any possibility here.  I don't think Doss or Sanders are a lock.  Odds are, one of them will be here and the other isn't.

I think it would also be fair to say the odds very heavily favor the younger, cheaper, more productive guy.

Absolutely, but there's no guaranteed roster spot at this point.

Shorts is one blow to the head from never playing another down, Blackmon has a legit medical situation preventing him from being a functioning adult, our two second round rookies can't stay healthy enough to practice, and a second year player with 51 receptions is on the bubble (keep in mind the other 7 camp bodies have a combined ~80 career catches).  Well, at least it'll be interesting for the 2014 Jaguars to be the first NFL team in history without receivers!

He isn't going anywhere this year barring injury.

Plus, there's no point in talking "bubbles" when there aren't even cut downs happening.

There's a time and place for everything.  But I guess kids love to chase bubbles no matter when.

I do not feel as if WR Ace Sanders #18 in his 2nd year in the NFL is on the bubble of being cut.  He declared for the draft in his Junior year, and had more receiving yards (484) than 4 year veteran Doss had while with the Ravens.  He not only has his age going for him, being young and able to coach up but he comes in with $495,000 base salary while Doss is at $645,000 base in comparision.

The team currently has 15 WRs (if you dont count Justin Blackmon) so surely many will be cut before September. If you can trust the depth charts out on the web most of them reflect this;

WR1 Cecil Shorts, Allen Robinson, Tandon Doss, Chad Bumphis, Allen Hurns

WR2 Marqise Lee, Ace Sanders, Mike Brown, Lamaar Thomas, Kerry Taylor

That would make me think that the top 4 are safe; Cecil, Marqise, Allen, Ace, and the 5th one being a tough battle but I expect Mike Brown will win for Preseason start.  They also have <span>Justin Blackmon (Susp), Damian Copeland, Allen Hums, Kevin Smith, Brandon Wimberly, and Denard Robinson listed at WR.  The GM Dave Caldwell already publicly stated that they will not cut Justin Blackmon (dead money) if not reinstated, and I wonder about Denard Robinson and exactly what if any role he'll play on this team.</span>

<span>If you say Doss was on the bubble, or Mike Brown, or Kerry Taylor for example I could beleive it more than Sanders.  He is the punt returner.  You figure they have to have guys on the 45 game day roster that could match up with certain teams defenses that might mean big and strong like a Blackmon type of WR or Robinson for example or it might mean quick fast route runners like Sanders whom also fit the special teams needs.</span>

With the competition at WR this year, I don't think anyone is 100% secure.  Positions will need to be earned.  I think Shorts, Lee, and Robinson are as close as you're going to get to roster locks.  Beyond that, it's a scramble.

Does that mean I think Sanders is in jeopardy of losing his spot? No.  But, he's not a lock either at this point.  There's a lot of competition for those spots.  Odds are he remains, but nothing is guaranteed today.

I am saying if it comes down to Doss or Sanders, I would expect that Doss would be cut first.

That would be the expectation, unless Doss winds up outperforming Sanders during training camp and the preseason.

Doss has an uphill battle against Brown too.  Brown had a better than expected rookie year for a QB to WR.

It'd be hard to argue definitively that Brown or Sanders had a better rookie campaign.  Sanders is the penciled in PR and took a few KR back too.

Agreed that is why I dont understand the talk of Sanders being on the bubble, I know no player is a lock but to me I can think of a few players on the bubble that would deserve a thread about it but not Sanders.  I too thought Brown was impressive towards the end of the season, he kept finding ways to get open (and looked better than Sanders at that point).

The talk of Sanders being on the bubble has to do with competition.  If he loses vs. the competition currently on the roster, he's not going to hang on to his roster spot.  Sanders is no more secure than any of the other players you might start a thread about.  This is not a team chalked full of talent that can't be replaced.  The number of players who are sure-fire locks for the roster is probably less than 20.

Ace is going nowhere. Its such a ridiculous suggestion with a 4th round pick being as productive as he was with a hot garbage QB situation.

So, if he's outperformed by another player on the roster, they'll stick with him because of his draft pedigree?

No, they will stick with him because he was a rookie who has more upside than anyone else they'll bring off the street like Doss. He will get his chance again.

All this talk of Sanders being on the bubble had me think what about Marcedes Lewis?

They are saying that he is doing excellent in OTAs and as the 2nd most veteran player on the roster he is excited about the changes and attitude in Jacksonville.

That being said he is the 2nd highest paid TE in the league, Jimmy Graham (Franchise Tag) with the Saints makes $7,035,000 while Marcedes Lewis makes $6,700,000 this year.  The next highest is Greg Olson (Carolina) $5,250,000; Jason Witten (Cowboys) $5mil; Antonio Gates (Chargers) $5 million; M. Bennett (Bears) $4.8 Mil; Vernon Davis (49ers) $4.7 mil; Brent Celek (Eagles) 4mil; J Casey (eagles) $3.9 mil; and Rob Gronkowski (Pats) $3.7 mil being the top 10.

How many people truly feel that Lewis is the 2nd best TE in the league?  How about the top 5?  He's only made one ProBowl in 2011 in which they placed the franchise tag on him that season based on his 2010 stats (the best of his career with 10tds).  He had only 300 some yards last year with 4 touchdowns is that really worth $6.7 million a year?

Its great that they say Lewis is doing fantastic in OTAs I hope he has a repeat of 2010's stats, but dont you have to ask is he on the bubble?

I agree I think he is far safer on the roster than many others including Doss.
