BigCatCountry continues to try and prop up Alualu as a solid player

Quote:The only thing MAYBE saving your argument is that Grady Jackson hadnt played here long enough. If he had, i doubt your stance would be the same.Exactly. As far as quality of play when in the lineup, as far as ability to hold up at the point of attack and stuff the run, I'd still take 2007 Grady Jackson over Alualu. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I believe someone said that he has brought zero tangible positives, that is false. they were pointed out, that's it. I don't think many would utter a complaint if and when he is cut. But to say he has done nothing is disingenuous. http://jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/top.../?p=225358 http://jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/top.../?p=225402 Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:Fine. Like I said, Alualu is an average player. No, he wasn't a difference maker, he was just a fort-holder. I'm defending him because he doesn't deserve to be called "useless," when he has clearly contributed. Yes, as the 10th pick, he should have performed much much better, but at the very least we can say he is an average player, no more and no less. Apart from all that, Alualu's given his all to the Jags, and I'll always appreciate that. Quote:The only thing MAYBE saving your argument is that Grady Jackson hadnt played here long enough. If he had, i doubt your stance would be the same. I've already admitted to Grady Jackson being a better player than Alualu, just not in his days in Jacksonville. He was older and not as effective as he used to be. And the team let Jackson walk, making no attempt to re-sign him. If he were so great at the time, they would've held onto him or at least made an attempt to hold onto him.
Quote:How can I lose an arguement based on an opinion? So we all agree he's not good enough to start? But he's solid? I think the big debate is on what one defines as solid. A player that is not starter material isn't a solid player in my book. Alualu may not be garbage, but it's not like he's anything we'd miss. Add to that the fact that he was drafted tenth overall, and you can see why some gone him very little slack Quote:Like I said, Alualu is an average player. He was signed for the sole purpose of filling in while Marcus Stroud was suspended. That was the only reason they signed him/ let him go. Can we use the same example for Tyson? Can we say if Tyson isnt such a hamper to this team, he will be resigned? Grady Jackson is bad for the team not wanting to resign him, if Alualu isnt resigned ( which he wont be ) he must be just as bad. We show less advertisements to registered users. The guy is a bust plain and simple. You have the same apologist here who made up excuses for jdr, gene smith, etc. I only hope the guy plays better.

That was the only reason they signed him/ let him go. Grady Jackson was not filling in for Marcus Stroud. That was Rob Meier's job. Grady Jackson was depth player. If no effort is made to re-sign Alualu next offseason, then we can say that the team didn't feel Alualu could make them better or at the very least, help them out. Just as we can say the same about Jackson. However, in terms of who was better as a Jaguar? That will always be Alualu. And I never said Grady Jackson was bad either, that's you putting words into my mouth. Quote:Grady Jackson was not filling in for Marcus Stroud. That was Rob Meier's job. Grady Jackson was depth player.Grady Jackson was signed because of the suspension of Marcus Stroud. You still need depth when Rob Meier moves up to fill in for Stroud. Quote:Grady Jackson was signed because of the suspension of Marcus Stroud. You still need depth when Rob Meier moves up to fill in for Stroud. I'm well aware of that. However Grady Jackson was not brought in as Stroud's replacement as you said, Stroud's replacement was already on the team. I fail to see how this technicality matters though, because the overall point remains either way you look at it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Theres nothing wrong with being a rotational player. Hes not a complete liability and can contribute with limited snaps.
Quote:Theres nothing wrong with being a rotational player. Hes not a complete liability and can contribute with limited snaps. The whole point is that description doesnt fit a "solid " player. Quote:The whole point is that description doesnt fit a "solid " player. Are the only two options "solid" and a total liability? There is some middle ground and thats where Tyson lies. He can be effective in a rotational role. Effective as in does his job and does not ruin plays for the defense. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
As long as he's not starting, I don't mind him being on the final roster. Hes solid depth. Safe to say, I was happy red Bryant was added though.
No commercial messages in sigs
Barring a huge leap in performance, he's gonna play out his contract and be replaced by a mid-round pick as a rotational 5-technique. He's a solid player and decent citizen by all accounts but still lingering is his high draft selection. He's certainly not worth the angst nor the apologists

Alualu's timeline...
Dominate 3 tech who is a Troy Polamalu type of player.... Dominant against the run.... He is great at holding the point of attack... He is going to be solid depth and a good rotational player. Sounds like a typical BUST to me.
Quote:People in this thread label him a bust. Can you give me your example of a bust? Bust - Draft position plays a big role in whether or not a player is a bust. Other than kickers, I wouldn't consider anyone drafted in rounds 6 or 7 a bust, and rounds 4 and 5 only if there was an obvious alternative pick who ended up better. There is a lot of expectation on top ten picks, and those who fall short are rightly labeled bust. Useless - No player is useless. If nothing else, a player will provide someone for teammates to practice against. Being 'not useless' proves nothing. Solid - I'd define 'solid' as an average starter. A backup is not solid unless he would be an average starter on another team. Good Plays - For the defensive line, a stop late in the game that prevents a loss (stuffing a 4th and 1 play for example). Or a sack by beating the OL quickly (as opposed to a coverage sack, or one where the QB falls down or runs out of bounds and the defender just happened to be closest). Or blocking a pass, especially if it ends up being intercepted. The only good play I remember from Alualu was an impressive sack in his very first preseason game. Maybe you can share your memories of other good plays. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
