I don't know I've always loved chicken, raising, butchering, cleaning and cooking my chickens hasn't changed that. I haven't done the pigs or a cow yet but I doubt it will change much for me either.

It's not a hard and fast principle but it certainly holds true for most processed foods. If have an inkling of how disgusting the process is of making the chicken I eat but I certainly don't want to know the details.

Do you get Fosters Farms chickens back East? In college, I used to sell "mutilator" blades to them, and they would always insist on showing me how they work.

Ugh...

We just ordered our first set of laying hens from the tractor supply store, about $3 a chick. I helped a neighbor butcher a couple of his chickens the other week to make sure I had the stomach for it before going all in. Best tasting chicken I've ever had, he said he got them from the same Tractor store I put my order in for. We should be picking ours up in about 3 weeks which means I have to hurry up and finish my stupid hen house.

I'm not sure about Foster Farms the label looks familiar, but I never really payed to much attention to brands when picking chicken out. We always went with the cheapest per pound.

I get sick thinking about prepared food and how unsanitary it is, especially when I cave for time and settle for the fast food junk. The first time I cleaned out a turkey did make my stomach turn a little, but that was my first time doing ANYTHING, now it doesn't bother me at all.

Butchering can be a nasty business, but with some fava beans and a nice Chianti...

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't plan on doing the pigs or cows on my own, I'll take those to the local butcher and pay his kill fee.

I watched bull fights in Spain and after the bull is slain (wait a minute, I'm rhyming here. Might as well finish it out; The bull is slain, gently on the plains of Spain) Okay, that's out of my system.

Anyway, as I was going to say, after the bull is killed, it's dragged out of the ring and straight to a slaughter house that's built into the arena. By the time the fights are over and about four are dead, they have the carcasses cleaned and ready to go in no time. It's pretty impressive how fast they work. The meat is then donated to local orphanages and charities.

So I'm in Winn Dixie picking up some beer and the woman in front of me pays for her food items with an EBT card and sundry items with cash.  Since I only had beer to purchase I was in the parking lot not long after she exited the store.  As I'm backing out I see she is loading her things into a late model Lexus.  So naturally the burning question is: Does EBT pay for beer?  If so, how do I get one of those cards.
