How Serious Do You Take Sports?

#21

I definitely take it less serious in my 30's than I did in my 20's. I assume this will be the case throughout the rest of my life. I used to read every box score and could list out stats for guys across leagues. Now I see guys getting 100 million dollar contracts in baseball I have never heard of.

Well, your attention is one thing, but what is your attitude? I mean, I don't follow it quite as much as I used to, but I'm a lot more calm about it.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I am definitely more calm as well. I think once I had kids, it changed the way I felt after one of my favorite teams loses. It's more like well it sucked we lost but there are just important things to worry about.

Having said that...if the Jaguars do ever win a Super Bowl in my lifetime, I will probably cry like a baby.

I think that's the key; having perspective. Once I saw what role I had in sports, it changed the way I acted. Once I realized that I was "out of the game", watching became much more boring for me. I think that's a big part of why I got into coaching. While I'm not out on the field, I am working every day towards being better, keeping competitive, and learning new things.

It's a different experience, but it's a whole lot more satisfying than just sitting on a barstool/couch/stadium seat watching someone else have all of the fun.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

I have coached youth sports the last few years. I try to teach the kids to work hard and listen. But to also play as a team and have fun. Some of the opposing coaches take it so serious you would think they had a shot at the Rose Bowl on the line not an under8 flag football game. I have been fortunate with the parents that I have had so far but have heard some horror stories.

Oh, they're out there. I know of a team here locally that after a particularly bad loss, one of the parents had t-shirts printed out with the score and the statement "Never again!" and gave them to each of the players.

I get a little too upset when stupid mistakes are made by a team I'm rooting for and I've been asked to cool down a bit when playing league softball  -- so I guess I take it a little too seriously at times.  I definitely get more enjoyment than stress out of it though.

I hate those kind of guys, they suck all of the fun out of it. Yes, I get it that you take Bowling all serious and all, but Bingo is funner than asking you to be civil. .... Every Time! ... At least when it was softball we could count on you being in a cast half the season while watching from the stands. You keep it up, and I am going to wax the bottom of your bowling shoes. ... Do you remember that time the bat seemed stuck to your hands, and then you swung really hard ... and then the bat hit you in the ankle? Pine Tar! ... You get me?
